I read somewhere that 75% of stats quoted, are made up.

Well, "better" is a subjective word anyways. Doesnt matter, I suppose. Lots of people like the EE's either way. Definitive is the word I heard him use in the appendices we watched over the last week.

The books don't do it all justice?
I love these films. They are some of my absolute favorites, but yeah, the books have way more "stuff". That way more "stuff" that didn't make it into the movies is awesome. It is really cool seeing the battles, and the Balrog scene is fabulous, but the books are, in my opinion, some of the best works of fiction ever written.

Interesting discussion on that a movie actually outdid a book. I do not think so in these movies, but they certianly helped paint the picture. Imagination plays a huge part in what the reader sees, so for some people, I could see it as the movie being the better version. Not for me though!

The green tint DOES NOT EXIST on my sceen and has never existed! I made several comparisons of FOTR environment colours to real-life environment colours while watching it. Blue skies out my window matched the blue skies on s screen PERFECTLY. Tree greens on screen were the same as that of the trees out my window. Whites (snow) were fantastic. And my TV has perfect colour balance across all content.

I don't care what people say. The screenshot comparisons highly misrepresent what the FOTR EE actually looks like regarding the supposed "green tint."

As for my 99% statement earlier? You ask everyone that has a Blu-ray player and HDTV to watch both and I would put money on 95%-99% would say, "What are you talking about? There is no green tint."

I'm going to repeat what I said earlier, which is this:

The green tint is there. You may not notice it's there because the entirety of the film has this, and when watching the film from beginning to end, you never notice it because that's how everything looks contextually. It looks natural. Many many movies use colored tints in a similar way, and the green tint gives FOTR a dark foreboding tone that suits it well.

That being said, I don't mind it as long as it was Jackson's intention.

But just because you don't notice it, doesn't mean it isn't there. It is. Period.

I took these with my ASUS BD drive using a 21.5" calibrated 1080p HP monitor. No green tint you say? Have a look below.

Agreed. I was inspired by the movies to read the books(the 1st fictional books I had read in 30yrs, which speaks to their greatness). I have to say I enjoyed the movies a little more. I felt there was some unnecessary info the books(Bombadil, etc.) that seemed out of place. Keep in mind though that these were written b4 our eyes got so saturated/accustomed to computer-generated special effects. Watching the films the second time AFTER reading the books was a phenomenal movie-watching experience for me. Some of the extra material the books had greatly enhanced the films for me, most of it not so much(save for the scouring of the Shire).

I'm still trying to work myself up to watching the Blu-ray boxed set. JI've just watched this trilogy so many times that watching it again for the full 10-12 hours isn't something I'm looking forward to.

lols

It took a stretch to watch Gettysburg straight through for that 4-5 hours.

I applaud your ability to read only the firs sentence of my post.

I said that I used REAL LIFE NATURAL COLOURS AS COMPARISON TO MY SCREEN DURING VIEWING! The blue skies outside my window right next to my TV proved identical. Likewise with the other colours. Most people (and the internet screenshot comparisons) reference the skies as being an ugly teal colour.

Had I been making my statement strictly on a viewing without any reference other than the presentation, I would agree that it could be going unnoticed due to the effect you mention. But, that just isn't the case.

I read the rest of your post, but there are a bunch of variables that go into play when it comes to what you're looking at. You can look out your window and look at your set, fine. If you see the same exact thing, then perhaps your set needs calibration.

I'm not even arguing about the green tint... I actually think it suits the film in MOST shots. However, your argument is that it's not there at all, and it is. You don't have a copy of the disc any different than mine, or anyone elses. You have the same thing, which is a film that has green tint. This is not up for a debate. Screen grabs of the theatrical cut vs the extended show quite clearly that an alteration has been, mistakenly or not. This has been discussed ad neauseum and there's no arguing that it's there.

The argument is strictly whether or not it's intentionally done by Jackson or not.

Actually, I'm not stating that it does not exist. I'm stating that it does not exist for me. Which, ultimately, is just me trying to keep people from making a decision based on the internet comparisons. Many people have come into this thread and stated that the internet comparisons are a night and day difference from the actual effect seen on their screens.

All I'm trying to do is get people to take the screenshots with a massive grain of salt so they can judge for themselves. Too many have stated they won't even give it a chance because of the screenshots... which is ridiculous.

I most certainly agree with you on your last point. It is ridiculous. As I've said before, the reason why it's so night and day when looking online, is because we have the 'correct' version to look at side-by-side with the newly tinted version. At that point, it seems really silly that such a change was made. But when viewing without comparisons, it works really well, for the most part. People really should view it for themselves and then decide.

Whats funny is with those screencaps, I was able to go to the exact point of the movie and I NOW see the tint.
The funny part is that after watching for a few minutes, you start to not notice it at all... I guess thats why i never noticed at first, cause i watched from the beginning credits... but just jumping to a specific scene you will notice it...
