I was successful in PMing the Amazon price (from a printout) at BB in December. I guess it just depends which store you go to.

Does anyone know if they did a running change or is this a case of Russian roulette when you buy the set? Like you said Chip, glad that wasn't me

You know, I can kind of see how they gave it to you. In your print out it say out of stock...online(right?). Well, unless they shop their competitors they aren't going to know the stores don't have it. Good on you. I wasn't so lucky the first go round, but got lucky at the second store.
i got a younger kid at the register.
sure it said SOLD OUT.....what i posted in the pic was the exact paper i brought to the store.

I havent seen these movies in a long time, i would say in about 5 + years or maybe even more. When i see them its going to be like watching a new movie.
I was watching Doctor Zhivago on Sunday and was enjoying it so much I decided I wanted to enjoy The Lord of the Rings Trilogy too so I ordered for $49.49 on Amazon. I too think it is a good price--and no--Lord of the Rings has nothing in common with Doctor Zhivago other than being fine movies.

I went to my local best buy today and showed them the walmart online ad for 34.99. The cashier was shocked that the extended collection was selling that cheap. They did call the manager up to the cashier and called a local walmart. Luckily they said they had it in stock in that walmart, and I got it for 37 bucks at Best Buy. Definitely well worth it. I can't wait to watch them. Pretty excited!!!

Do you guys think there will be a LOTR/Hobbit super set eventually with all three Ext cuts of LOTR plus both Hobbit movies with Ext cuts(if they exist) all in one massive set? That would be truly epic!

Probably, but I doubt there will be extended cuts of The Hobbit. It's already 1 book split into 2 (presumably) 2.5 hour films... that's already a 5 hour movie. Maybe if they try and keep the theatricals under 2 hours, it could happen.

It's New Line, which is distributed by Warner, and we've all seen how many editions and box sets of Harry Potter have been released so far.

I think there will be, but not for a very long time. If you can, definitely grab this at $34.96. Got mine for $39.99 when Fry's was offering it at that price. No regrets.

On a sidenote, your avatar makes me think about this (it's the only video of this clip I found that didn't have a profanity-laced title ):

I absolutely LOVE Paul. That has to be one of my favorites. So genuine and heartfelt, despite coming off as a crude and crass.

Weird, I just checked again. Still says "Out of stock online." Not sure why it would be in stock for you and not me.

It was in stock when I checked again about an hour or two ago. Clearly it's something to keep a close eye on.

Thank you. It amazes me that so many people here assume there is going to be an extended cut of The Hobbit when it is already two feature length films made out of one book. If there is an extended edition, fine. We just shouldn't be assuming there will be.

i saw it in stock about an hour ago and added it to my cart but it went oos before i could go further.. but now at 3pm i'ts back in stock and i got one..

i don't know what they're thinking selling them this cheap.. they aren't drawing in sales to the store.. anyone that gets it is just here on the site to get the video and nothing else.. even if they sold if for 50 bucks they'd still sell out. I don't know what they're thinking.. but i'm glad they thought of it.. just saved 40 bucks.

I just successfully ordered it from Walmart; 5:10pm.
Started checking the web site several hours earlier, kept showing out of stock.
Checked the site every 45 minutes or so, and finally got in for an order.
Confirmation message says pickup starting 3/19, so it'll be a while, but I can wait.
So, for those who are still looking, keep checking the site.

It doesn't even show up on wal mart's site anymore. They removed it completely from searches.
