Keep checking Wal-Mart.com. The upgrade in the EEs is easily worth $60.

This is why I own two external BD drives and two laptops.

I wish I had a laptop HD. I'm actually debating on convincing my wife we need to make a switch to one. Desktop isn't as convenient as it was before our son came along Where have you been for a week KL300 or are you one of those "I won't shop at bladdie blah-blah" folks? Still, as my wife pointed out. If it went on sale once, it will go on sale again. I just wish it would stay in stock long enough for it to be price matched for you guys on Amazon. I'll agree it is a great movie, but $38 for the trilogy is better than full price any day. Which is why I haven't picked up the complete Star Wars trilogy on blu yet either.

My main computer is a HP laptop that I run to a HP 21.5" 1080p 60Hz monitor. I also have an external BD drive that is read only as well as an external BD burner. As if that wasn't enough I have my PS3 ran to the HD monitor and I have 4 external hard drives totaling about 4.25 terabytes. Yes, this all sits on one desk. I needed a 10 port USB hub to make this setup work and I use every one of them

Hi all.
I held off on buying this set because of the green tint issue. I had seen all the screen caps of the VERY visible green cast. I also read all the reviews both pro and con.
I finally decided to buy it, and received it last week (purchased from Amazon).
I just watched FOTR.
On my display (Sony 46XBR4, calibrated), the picture is NOTHING like what the screen caps show.
Snow is white, skies are blue. I also paid attention to the opening titles. The words are white; no green tint there either.
VERY pleased here so far.

I also ordered a copy from Walmart that I thought I'd put away for a gift (the $37 price was impossible to resist).
But I'm tempted to play FOTR from that set to see if there's a difference.

Maybe I can save you the trouble - I watched my copy of FOTR EE from Walmart.com last night and was very impressed, much better detail & PQ than the theatrical FOTR. Colors were spot on and I didn't see any hint of the infamous "green tint", and I've calibrated my Oppo player & projector with Spears & Munsil. Looking forward to checking out TTT tonight.

I held off only because I have the EE DVDs and theatrical BDs, and wasn't willing to pay more than $11 for each movie for the triple dip.

OK, so even Amazon does not sell this set directly anymore, so I assume its officially OOP? Anyone know what's next as far as a reissue, if any?

I picked up my $35 set from Walmart today and am afraid to open it for fear that something better may be released down the road. Its not like I have any urge to watch these ASAP.

It's been stated there'll be a "Whole Middle Earth" set released when the two Hobbit films are out on BD/SD, containing all five films. Can't imagine there'll be a completely new release between now and then (2014). With no new material, what would they do differently? Though they might do what they've done with "Aliens Anthology", maybe, and repackage just the films without the extras.

But are you sure it's OOP with Amazon, or merely currently out of stock? Titles go out of stock all the time, and Amazon lists them as available from marketplace suppliers until it gets new stock in.

(Edit: Just checked the Amazon US site, and it's not OOP. There's been a manufacturing or packaging issue raised - maybe over the reports of two Discs Two in some copies of RotK - and Amazon is checking. It'll be back.)

Thanks. I guess I better just open it then in case I need a replacement disk.

I'm just tired of having to double-dip on things when they decide to make a better version.

The first release was bad. Fellowship had annoying lines on both sides of the frame that kept appearing every once in a while, particularly bad during Arwen's Ride. I can't believe that made it past QC.

My copy of Fellowship doesn't have any lines appearing.

Ah the beauty of random misinformers who blame their setups on the disc!

I use the Fellowship prologue as demo/calibration material for my sound setup. Does anyone else use that? It's got the good LFE and range in the battle and I've seen it so much I can do a lot of changes by ear.

I'm one of those with two Disc 2's for ROTK (purchased from Best Buy), but it's no issue. The disc art is just wrong: I have Disc 1 and Disc 2, but Disc 1 is misprinted. Kind of quirky, no reason to fuss about it.

HAHA! So true. Sounds like somebody has some issues with his gear and not the actual disks.

I use that from time to time but I usually ask people what they would like to hear/see and most of the time the SW Pod Race is chosen. Mostly because I think SW is better known by non-movie buffs.

Are you referring to the theatrical edition of FOTR? Because it seems most people don't have these lines you speak of with their extended FOTR editions.
