I've got a 4 year-old and a 2 year-old, so I feel your pain (and joy).

I can relate. I'm going to try and wrap up the last hour of the directors cut of Watchmen in between my 18 months naps today. I think once I get a BD and flatscreen downstairs it will be a bit easier to watch movies at my leisure. Like most of you dad's, my viewing times are once everyone has gone to bed. My wife and I tend to watch our sitcoms when winding him down to go to bed. Of course this means our hour shows tend to stack up. Anyway, back on point. I think I'll wait until after The Hobbit is released to see if he does some sort of ultimate edition. I have the dvd sets of the LOTR EE's and don't see much of a reason to upgrade right now.

Out of the three movies, ROTK is the one that least needs a new remaster, but if they were going to re-scan it at 4K and keep the bitrate high, they have no choice but to put it on two discs. Last edited by deado; 01-19-2011 at 01:59 AM. |

Yeah, they were insane geniouses. I love the Dust Blows Forward & the Dust Blows Back on Trout Masck Replica; poetic insanity.

![]() Anyway, back on topic I think Frank Zappa would have loved the extended editions. |

See, I actually like having the movies split across two discs, and not because of any bit rate arguments. These movies are freaking long, and the split between discs creates a great "intermission" in the middle. In fact, the moments they choose to stop and restart on work very well, IMO.
I've always watched the EE's as a 6-part series as opposed to watching 3 overly long films, so my vote is for keeping the films split-- not that what I think matters, they'll release them how they release them, but it's my preference. I'll be buying them either way. And I know some of you guys like to watch the entire film in one go, but c'mon-- you should take a moment or two to stretch and go the bathroom anyway! |
