I would assume yes. I'm certain that Peter Jackson is going to try and make them all flow together nicely.

Do you think we will see another re-release of the extended editions, once The Hobbit's two parts are done... with a newly 4k remastered masters or something like that??? I personally think we will... of course is an enormous task, but being these ones THE LORD OF THE RINGS, I think is worth taking, not to mention it means more profit for the studio.

One thing is certain, the current blu ray edition will indeed look old compared to The Hobbit, and maybe that's when they'll take the "opportunity".

Like mentioned before, 2K is the highest resolution they could use without redoing all the FX shots. That would be an extremely expensive process, and I sincerely doubt WB would go to those lengths.

I can imagine a 4K re-do for a 4K home video format but not for 1080P BDs...

If they have the original negative then they can scan it at 4k

they have the original negatives for these still, I imagine we will see the "rumored" true Extended Editions the actors got (apparently 1 hour more of footage for each movie on top of the 1 hour to each extended edition) with the release of the Hobbit Extended Editions when those eventually get released.

As I said earlier Warner is going to continue to milk this franchise to death with multiple releases and packaging causing Tolkien/Jackson fans to double, triple, and even quadruple dip.

I certainly agree, but until (if) that happens I am perfectly content with my EE box set. I actually prefer the color grading in the EE of FOTR over the color grading in TE. Some people on this forum alsao act like the majority of blacks are crushed in FOTR when they are not. Sure, there are some crushed blacks in Moria and briefly in other places, but most of the blacks in FOTR look just fine.

I'd like for someone to tell me every time stamp where crushed blacks occur so I can post screenshots for everyone to see.

I watched the whole trilogy and had no problem with it but i now understand what R3P0 was saying about the 1 hour added to each film .There are still scenes which have been filmed but are not in the EE set

I found the following online

Peter Jackson has stated that he would like to include some of these unused scenes in a future "Ultimate Edition" home video release, also including out-takes

That's a challenge as they are scattered about through that entire Moria sequence as one shot will have some crushed blacks and the next will not.

I probably wouldn't buy that unless you could get them all for cheap. I already had to double dip on the EE set once (DVD to BD) and I am not triple dipping and a few added deleted scenes unless they can be had for next to nothing.

I believe this was said in the EE commentary by Jackson. I believe it was about an anniversary release.

Well if I pay a premium price for a product, I EXPECT a premium product in return. But thats just me.

I believe that you have pretty much covered most of them. However another poster pointed out that some of Legolas's arrows now vanish near the Bridge of Khazad-dûm section of the film. I do not know about that, though I am very curious about it.

In the commentaries for the extended editions, not to mention it was rumored that the cuts of the films the actors received (read this somewhere online) had all the unused scenes (approx 1 hour more per film), like I said it is just a rumor that these versions exist and I am no way confirming anything.

Heres an interview concerning the ultimate editions of LOTR including admittance of over 20 hours of additional stuff not yet released

It's time to pop in the disc and see for myself.
