Amazon is selling it (see right panel): http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Fel...rd+of+extended

It's still available at the BB's near me as well. I doubt this will go OOP. Even with the individual releases they'll still sell this, just like they sell the individual Theatricals and TE boxset still.

So far, nothing different from the trilogy set... except buying all individually will result in spending more for the complete set.

Based on the prices quoted by Amazon, at the moment the three individual sets together are cheaper than the full boxed set by nearly $14 — though why one would want to go that way, I have no idea. I'm not a packaging freak, but in this case I think the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts.

Oh, I see. They are selling it for more than the third party and that's why I saw "Fulfilled by Amazon" during the search. Thanks.

You're still on this? It depends on where you buy it. It's more than $70 shipped on Amazon in new condition. It's $99.99 at Best Buy. It's $119.99 at Barnes and Noble. It's $62.87 shipped the WB shop. It's $89.96 at Walmart (they don't price match their online store). Target doesn't appear to have it online. So, the best bet is to get it at the WB store and wait for shipping.

This of course assumes the prices stay the same by the time the individual releases are out.

There just always seems to be SOMEPLACE that is offering the boxset at $60 or less at any given time. THAT is why I can only laugh at the prospect of the individual releases being sold at a higher price than the set. Why not just buy the set? If someone wanted these enough, they would have saved $10/$15/$20/month and been able to get the set for less than $70 already. Why would they now buy them individually over a span of time and pay $75?

All I'm saying is that the whole situation just seems a bit weird to be offering the exact same thing as in the boxset in the first place. Had they removed the extra content and offered them all at $17.99-$19.99 each, THEN I would understand this sales tactic. But, as it is, it really baffles me from both a business AND consumer perspective.

As pretty much everyone else has already said or agreed to. The point's made: it's a strange move by the distributors.

Just as the full set can be found cheaply in various places, so will the individual movie packs. It's always going to be swings and roundabouts on which way of buying it is more advantageous, depending on where you look and when.

It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense buying an individual pack, since these are three parts of a single integrated story, not three separate adventures of the same characters, so I think we're agreed that it's puzzling why someone wouldn't buy the whole pack, but I don't think the price is actually the issue. We're back at "it's a strange move by the distributors".

I guess the only reason I can see this making sense is if maybe someone doesn't have a lot of money to spend at one time, and it would be easier for them to buy one movie at a time (even if it may be more expensive in the long run).

Thanks for the heads up. Boy they sure are making it a painful process for frugal people like me who have been waiting for the individual releases to become available at a reasonable price ... because I don't want to double-dip seeing as I already own the extended DVD set which already contains all of the extra special features. (How's that for a run-on sentence?) Now it's just a waiting game until the individual releases go on sale for a more reasonable price.

Page, these individual releases contain all the same extras. They're identical to the contents of the EE Blu-ray boxed release, just split into three.

Oops! Thanks for the correction. I just assumed ... without reading the product description. Oh well ... maybe a release of only the extended movies (and no DVD extras) will never happen.

I'm one of those people that has a very difficult time buying something that I already own a second time, especially when I don't have a need for it. It's such a waste to me. I suppose I will have no choice but to buy the entire package again eventually if I want to see the EE Blu-rays.

I'm having a hard time understanding why they would even release these separately. It's like they're going after the consumer with every imaginable angle possible ... other than the one I would like. (sigh)

Even that doesn't make any sense though. Anyone who wanted these (individually or as a set) would have LONG been able to save up for the boxset... and at a cheaper price no less. That is what is so baffling about this. Warner expects people to buy them in pieces over time when the people who wanted them would have already bought them as the boxset. Instead, they are trying to get people to spend more on the entire collection over time by buying them individually. Yet, when people see they can get the boxset and save $10-$15, these individual releases won't sell anyways. And any smart consumer will see the advantage to getting the boxset now since it is the cheaper option to getting all three OR they won't buy anything at all since those are EXACTLY IDENTICAL IN EVERY WAY to each of the 3 cases released in the boxset.

So, it doesn't benefit Warner to release these individually as is AND it doesn't benefit the consumer to pay more for what's already available for cheaper. It's an unbelievable catch-22 of a situation to have those individually available like that. If they were lacking the extra DVD discs and priced $7-$10 cheaper, it WOULD make sense. But alas........

Where are they going to save $10-$15 besides WB's shop? Costco is automatically disqualified as a subscription has to be purchased to shop there.

That's Canada, though. Are people in the States going to import from Canada?

There's an actual down-side to the Canadian release. I'm not in North America, and when I bought my copy, the Canadian price was cheaper than the US one (rare that it happens, but it does occasionally). But I avoided the Canadian set because it's an Alliance release, and I was told by a friend who'd bought it that it had unskippable Alliance promos and trailers at the start of every disc. Bahhhh!!!!!

I ended up buying the UK release, but it meant I missed out on the black cases and just got the regular blue ones — which are OK, but don't look nearly so special.

Looks like Best Buy jacked the price back up to $99.99.

It was half that price a few days ago. I was going to pick it up when my reward zone certs were ready (which should be any day now).

Bingo. I know in my case I might buy them one at a time, or even wait until future sales periods like Black Friday to pick them up.

Yea, I'm waiting for the individual releases to drop to ~$10 a piece.... Maybe around Black Friday?

I'm sure they'll be able to be had for cheap sometime in the near future

Yep, I expect $10-12 apiece for the holidays as well. Am holding off until then as I own the theatricals on BD, and the extended versions on DVD. So many other movies to watch between now and then.

Will definitely grab these when the price is right.

Warner Bros shop has the extended edition with free shipping for $62 right now if you are not a costco memeber, but IMHO, the price will drop over time. I have learned to wait to buy catalog titles for the most part as the prices always seem to drop over time. I am constantly finding catalogs I want for $5-10 vs paying $12-20 when they are first released.
