Thanks man

About the BD100 discs.. Just found out that it's the BDXL format
My next player will definitely be a BDXL-player - Well unless a firmware update can do the trick.

I'll wait for the EEs to come out on BDXL discs - Haven't got ANY of the other editions.

Yes it exists in prototype form. I have heard of no plans to bring it to market to use as a movie disc. I think it may be for data storage.

I'm enrolled in Amazon Prime. $79.99/year and I get 2 day shipping free w/ every purchase or overnight for an extra $3.99. They're in my box now, just haven't had a chance to run and pick them up yet...

This thread is for the extended editions, which come out in 2 months. You must be referring to the theatrical set.

Did you order the right ones? If you wanted the theatrical all the power to you, but I would've waited for the extended versions. Plus why didnt you sign up for the free trial, then get the year if you decided too?

I believe he's talking about a couple special prints of the novels, not the Blus.

That's correct. We were discussing the Silmarillion and an atlas of Middle Earth, not the movies...

And here I thought this thread was about the extended edition blu-rays that are coming out on June 28th. *shrugs*

It was, and is, but someone wanted to ask about the books, and clearly admitted it was off-topic, but no one else (until now) seemed to mind.

There's only so much you can talk about when the Blu-rays aren't released yet.

Aye. And seeing as how the books are the reference points for the films, we should be talking about them!

My apologies, it was not my intention to derail the thread; it was simply a quick question about the books, which it would seem other members were interested in as well. I only asked because there are some obviously well-informed members with a deep appreciation for the original novels participating in this thread.

I made one attempt to bring the thread back to the blu-ray release, but if everyone is happy with continuing their discussion on the novels, it isn't my responsibility to moderate the thread beyond my one attempt. No hard feelings I hope.

There's not much you can say about it, it isn't even released yet. What are people going to talk about, preordering it? It's not like you can talk about the quality of a transfer no one has seen yet.

To say discussion about the books is somehow ruining the thread is ridiculous, the things aren't even out yet.

In that case, would anyone like to hazard a guess as to what my Folio Society edition printed in 1977 and "bound in full Elephant hide" may be worth?

Not sure but the 1990 full elephant hide edition seems to be going for around $300 and the 1977 quarter leather binding edition is going for ~ $200.
