I love the covers. They're all beautiful, although I wish the 3rd cover was different. Like of Sam and Frodo walking thru Mordor or something.

Epic fail...

The content in these individual releases is identical in every way to that of the boxset. That includes the fact that the 3 extra feature discs for each film are, in fact, DVDs.

P.S. You will NEVER be able to see the extra features in HD. There is no HD source for that material. They were never captured in an HD resolution and therefore can't be magically turned into HD.

Pretty sure he meant he looks forward to watching the EE films themselves in HD (since he didn't buy them the first time around.)

I was confused be the wording at first too, though.

His entire reasoning doesn't make sense. He could have bought these movies ages ago, but didn't, and now is enthusiastic because he now can watch these movies in HD, which he already could have?

Interesting that the cover depicts the "Two Towers" as being Orthanc and Barad-dûr. But I'm pretty sure Tolkien said they were Orthanc and Minas Morgul. I guess that gets filed under "P" for "Peter-ization" of the stories.

... this has been discussed for ages. The Two Towers were Orthanc and Minas Morgul. It was changed because Minas Morgul wouldn't show up until the third movie, because Frodo and Sam wouldn't have much to do otherwise in the final film.

Yeah he changed it, but who cares?? Books are books and movies are movies. Keep them separate and you won't be disappointed. Changes are always going to happen, it's pointless to be against them.

I always assumed the Two Towers were those of Saruman and Sauron

I may end up just getting the individual releases due to the new cover art.

Ok. But even with THAT approach, that person is now saying that they never got the boxset because the extras were not in HD, so instead they will buy the individual releases to watch the films in HD when the boxset can be had for less money than the individual releases.

"Ok. Now I can spend more money for the exact same thing I could have already had for less."

Petra, why are you letting it bother you so much that people want to spend more money for something that they could have bought a long time ago and cheaper? It's their money dude. The argument is getting really old.

You are correct. People could get it cheaper. If they want to spend more money, it's their money and their prerogative. I think it's time to let this one go.

It doesn't "bother me." I'm just trying to help keep those fawning over the individual releases know the fact that the boxset can be had for cheaper. My counterpointers consistently talk about how "the average joe can't just walk into Wal-mart or Best Buy and buy it for less than $60." I'm just doing my part to keep the word alive that there are less expensive options.

As long as I know that anyone coming into this thread knows that fact, they can spend their money how they like. If they want the new cover art instead, fine. But, I just want to offer them the insight into the options available. I know that I would be upset if I waited for the individual releases to show, buy them, and then find out afterwards that I could have ordered the boxset and saved $10 or more for the exact same identical content in every way shape and form.
