Hopefully they will be either 19.99 or 14.99 on release date. U&S= 14.99 or 9.99!

I can't bring myself to ever go back to the theatricals after the Extendeds.

I think the most egregious omission in the EEs is in Fellowship when Aragorn is singing about Beren and Luthien. That ties in with Aragorn's story. It's what, less than five minutes long?

Yeah, I watched the theatricals once and I'll never go back. Certain scenes felt like they were cut down so much it seems like they were just rushing to get them over with (like the wagon ride with Frodo & Gandalf in Fellowship).

Just picked up the set, because I wanted the full packaging. Fellowship, to my eyes, seems dim and a tad soft, Two Towers looks fantastic, I don't mind the minor aliasing. Will have to check out ROTK tomorrow.

Is that in the theater version or in the deleted scenes. I really need to find the time to sit down and watch the copy I've probably had for quite some time

It's in the extended edition. The hobbits are sleeping and Aragorn is humming a song. Frodo asks who he's singing about ,he then relays the story of Beren and Luthien. It makes no sense thematically to omit that from the theatrical cut.

It makes no sense for Elves to be at Helm's Deep, either, or for Saruman to think that crushing Helm's Deep would spell death for the race of men, or for Denethor to run for a mile while on fire, or lots of other things. Just have to accept the movies for what they are.

I never read the books fully (never will), so those qualms don't bother me. I just think omitting the bit I described is detrimental to Aragorn's insecurity throughout the film trilogy.

I have never seen the long versions so I can hardly wait. But I read somewhere that the color timing is different on the extendeds compared to the original versions. I hope it doesn't turn me off.

It is different only on Fellowship. Examples are here: http://postimage.org/gallery/2fd483ts/

The bottom is the extended edition.

Here are 67 Fellowship screens from the extended edition Blu-ray: http://postimage.org/gallery/2fd483ts/

I find the difference extremely disturbing. What caused the drastic color shift?

Peter Jackson always wanted the film to have a slightly green tint to Fellowship Of The Ring as Two Towers has a red tint and Return Of The King has a blue tint (Just like the original EE DVD packaging colours would indicate). They were so pressed for time on the first film getting edited in time for theatrical release that it never got done properly. So, finally, when they were preparing for the EE Blu-ray release, they had the cinematographer come back in and do it as was originally intended so that each film has its own "quality" to it.

DO NOT TAKE ANY INTERNET STILL SHOTS SERIOUSLY! The actual image on your HDTV is fractionally noticeable compared to still shots... if noticeable at all. I don't even see a green tint ANYWHERE in the film at ANYTIME. Everyone seems to have their own degree of experience with the green tint.

I missed the fate of Saruman the most in the TE's. When I saw these films for the first time (TE), I was constantly wondering during ROTK where Saruman had gone to.

In motion, the film looks dim. I've seen the EE of Fellowship so many times on DVD, the change in appearance is striking, and I'm not crazy about it, although detail is beautiful in certain shots (Gandalf's fireworks, the opening map, etc.)

Source?

Why would the cinematographer come back in? If anybody was going to do it, wouldn't it be the color grader?

On the Gandolph shots on the link provided, the DVD looks very green where the EE BD doesn't. Seems to me just creative changes.
