Can't it just be accepted as an optional viewing experience that you can avoid EXTREMELY EASILY should you choose to while letting those who enjoy it indulge?

You aren't convincing anyone here to sell their 3D equipment and/or content. So, what's the point in constantly debating it? You said your peace. Everyone saw you don't know fact from opinion regarding the technology. Just move on.
I was going to let this go until you had to make another stab for no good reason. What I said was not opinion at all.

What is fact about your statement regarding home 3D technology? Those who got it and use it know that it is great. Your statements imply that it is somehow defective by design, which has never been proven as fact. The only fact is that everyone has the right to choose it as a quality experience or not as an experience at all. YOUR OPINION is that the technology has fundamental flaws within it. MY OPINION is that you just need to accept that it exists and that it will continue to exist. The only thing you should be expressing is that the technology is not for you. Just like film content, in and of itself, it is all subjective... which means it is all opinion based on individual experience.

So stop spreading F.U.D. about a technology which you obviously have no interest in.

ON TOPIC: Give me everything in 3D, including LOTR! Converted or native, I'm all for it enhancing my viewing experience!

Hahaha, I came into this thread for opinions on LOTR. Glad to get at least one.

Regarding 3D...personally, I watch movies for the story. I'm not paying extra if I'm getting the same story. The end. If I want a superficial effect, I'll go to an amusement park. But that's just me. I know many people these days don't watch moves for story.

Okay, so those that have it think it's great. More opinions.

Sure it is. Do I need glasses to see three dimensions outside of a movie? No, I don't.

Enhancing your experience? That's a joke if I have ever read one. Let's just go ahead get the smell-o-vision and motion seats while we are at it. Good grief.

2D should be left alone, period.

Silent black & white films should have been left alone then. You should be complaining about films ever being made. "Reading is the only way a story should be told." Why not even go back to "troubadors are the only way to experience a story being told."

And, who are you to tell me that 3D doesn't enhance my experience? Get off your high horse.

No refutation? I figured it would just be insults. Let me know when and if you're ready to continue.

Why would I resort to insults? It seems to me as though you are purposely trying to entice uncivil discourse. That is against forum policies.

Ah... so this is you admitting that you have been stating opinions and not facts?

I freely admitted that it's all subjective, did I not? I don't see how you pointing out that I'm knowingly talking about opinions is a problem which requires criticism.

The point I'm trying to make is that you seem to be on an unreasonable crusade against the format when it isn't necessary. You keep spouting opinions as facts. I keep trying to maintain the option as an open-minded endeavour for anyone who has yet to experience it.

Stop spreading the F.U.D. regarding 3D. You've said your peace. Now leave the topic alone and let the thread get back on track!!!!!!

Did they finally announce their intention to remove the obnoxious green tint from FotR?

I like to pop in every few months and ask this.

Green.

Actually, he is wrong. 3D is no more a marketing gimmick than color was when b&w was the norm, or widescreen when academy ratio as standard, or stereophonic sound when mono worked just fine. Yet those are accepted now as the norm, when initially widescreen's sole existence was to offer audiences something they couldn't now get on TV — a wider epic image. That's the definition of "marketing." 3-D is just another tool, just like sound, different types of cinematography, editing, or even the camera itself, to tell a story in a different way. Period.

Actually, so many people liked the tint, that they are coming out with a "Don't Make Frodo Angry" Special Edition with even more green goodness, and it will be applied to all three movies.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, but a blanket tint has been scientifically confirmed by other members. No surprise that it look better than DVD... I don't think many people have claimed that it doesn't.

The idea of a "blanket tint" seemed haphazard, and the screenshots indeed looked appalling, and people were complaining about lost detail.

Well, I found a good price and bought it last week with the intention of reselling it. But it looks great! There are a couple shots that I don't care for, but to my immense surprise and pleasure, the film has been largely improved upon. The earthy tones have been emphasized, looking lusher and richer than they ever have. The blues and greens and reds look brilliant, and skin tones, with a few rare and brief exceptions, are great. Didn't miss any orcs or goblins in the shadows, if they truly have been lost. A blanket tint is not at all present, but some shots do look noticeably greener (most to their advantage).

Anyhow, for those who are still on the fence and actually watch motion pictures (as opposed to pausing them to pick out flaws), you will not be disappointed in this set. The sequels look outstanding as well, of course.

It is a gimmick when older films are being converted into 3D. Sorry.

The only thing I like on the individual releases is the cover for the Fellowship. I am fine with my extended cut trilogy in one set.

3D to me is a gimmick and I do not want it, I like my story and I will only watch the 3D if the movie is shot in 3D, I didn't have to buy the ticket, or it is part of a special ala the Avengers six movie screening.

He wasn't saying it's not a gimmick, he's just pointing out that color films, widescreen films, etc. were also basically gimmicks at first.

I'm always amazed when I read this forum. Specifically today I'm amazed at how we allow for some alterations to film and bash others. Do I need Casablanca in 3-D? Is it really needed? Will it improve that film?

I also find it interesting that people don't seem to mind as much when the audio is changed, mono or stereo tracks converted to 5.1 and 7.1 as they do picture ratio changes. The argument there is that it changes the composition of the scenes and their effect.

But, 3-D doesn't? Very interesting conclusions.

Having an opinion about liking 3-D or not is fine. However, talking out of both sides of your mouth when defending it in regards to altering the original intent is ridiculous. Of course it changes the intent of the film. Your preference for that change not withstanding.

In the case of LOTR I feel a 3-D transfer is not needed. However, if Peter Jackson decides he wants it and the market is there to support it so be it.
