I'm confused. On Walmart.com they have the individual releases listed twice. One group coming out 8/28 for 23.86 each and the other group coming out 11/6/12 for 31.48 each. And also the trilogy set that's already out coming out 11/6/12 for 101.98. What's the difference between all of these?

Using the actual RGB numbers of what is supposed to be "white" pushed towards teal. It is definitely a uniform change. Also, the contrast is affected throughout the entire film.

The Two Towers and Return of the King are not affected by a teal push or mismanaged contrast and look absolutely fantastic.

I've used the clear white function on my tv, which pushes the white levels to a more pure white, and I have to say it doesn't make the transfer look all that different. I still think the main culprit, as it were, is the new color grade.

I'll concede the point, as it's not something I've investigated personally. My perception while watching the film, however, is not that everything looks a little more green. Colors are darker but true, snow is white, skin tones are normal, etc. And I still hold that when it comes to film, perception is far more important than reality.

anyone know if best buy is going to carry these in store? its about time i start picking up some lotr on blu. im most likely going to start with fellowship as its my favorite but seeing how i already own two dvd versions of fellowship ( theatrical and extended) im might just skip ahead and go right to two towers. ive never even seen the extended two towers or rotk. i love these movies but 100 bucks plus for a blu ray set is expensive. im glad they are putting them out in individual releases now.

The EE boxset has been available repeatedly at different retailers at different times for $50 - $60 for months now. Don't know why people keep thinking that they'll be getting a better deal by buying these individual releases.

Last year at Christmas time Best Buy had the EE set for $39.99 on a one day sale, so if your patient you might wait for that.

i just dont understand the reasoning behind laughing at me bc i want to pick the titles up one at a time? is it because that poster is just soooo smart that he figured out that if i buy the box set i would save a couple bucks? well if you ask me he should have started a new thread for that valuable piece of info. did i say anything im my post about finding the best deal? no i didnt. what does anyone care if i choose to pick up the titles one by one over the course of a couple months or go out and buy the box set?

Well right now on amazon each film is at $23.86, which totals to $71.58. The box set is at $72. Not much cheaper, but for me I would rather have the individual titles as I don't like box sets all that much (size wise). Plus the individual releases will fit nicer into the rest of my collection, with the added bonus of slipcovers.

It's just a matter of preference. Yes the box set could be cheaper closer to BF, but so could the individual titles.

You said that the LOTR set costs over 100 bucks. The dude pointed out that it can be found for half the price and you go apeshit like some spoiled teenager. Get your stuff together, man.

Whats with all the hate in this fourm lately? Anyway, still waiting some snaps of the individual sets. Hope they look nice. If so then next year i'll do the pointless thing and swap my boxset to the individual releases... because i guess i like waisting money on stuff i already own...

whatever. he laughed at me. in my book that makes him a jerk. plain and simple. i didnt ask for anyones advice on how much i should pay for lotr blurays. he simply had no reason to laugh at me like im some kind of fool.

the dude didnt just point out that it could be had for half the price (it cant be had for 50 dollars right now) he did some stupid laughing smily face like im some kind of idiot. if you dont like the fact that i will defend my honor then you can go join him in the land of douchery.

my "stuff" is together. if i want to buy the individual releases over the box set bc spending $73 on amazon is too much for me to spend in one day on a freaking bluray then i have every right to choose the 25 dollar release and buy them over a period of a few months.

im must be a fool bc according this that guy i should be able to pick up the box set for 50 or 60 bucks at mulitple retailers right now. could anyone post a link to where i can find this deal?

Woah there spunky... take a deep breath and count to ten.

I wasn't laughing AT YOU. I was laughing at the scenario you presented. So, don't take it so personally.

As for showing you an option for the boxset? I haven't checked recently. However, last I heard, the word on these forums is that Costco had the boxset for $49.99 or $59.99 as regular price for many months. And, we also got word that Best Buy was beginning to price-match Costco in certain territories. So, it is there if one is to take the initiative to seek out a deal.
