Why are these so elusive? I already own them but it's puzzling.

It's a quiet release. No ads or anything about them as far as I know. There are pre-orders of these again in November, and they'll possibly include "The Hobbit" movie cash. I could see Best Buy carrying that version since it'll be closer to the holidays. It's just odd that Barnes & Noble is the best place to get them.

So are these single disc releases yet? Do not want to switch discs. Do not want to pay $30.

On Blu-ray? You'll be waiting a fair while, I'm afraid.

I would bet a lot of money that each EE film will not appear on a single disc in the Blu-ray lifetime. WB would have to re-invest a fair amount of cash to have that happen. At this point, the financial responsibility associated with that process would not create enough sales to make it worth it.

Perhaps with the inevitable uber-Tolkien boxset that will appear after The Hobbit film appear on Blu-ray, WB will see merit in reducing the number of discs in the set by doing so. Otherwise, that set will become 12+ discs just for the films!

Also... you don't have to pay $30 per film.

Wait.... ummm... WHAT?!?!?!

Did you even read the conversation from the start? I simply pointed out that it was funny people still didn't know that all 3 EE Blu-rays could be purchased for less than the 3 individually. That other person went off like a rocket ship. I consequently tried to explain myself in a civil manner and they continued to be rude and turning my words into something that they were never meant to be.

So, I don't see why I'm the one who is being singled out in this situation. I only reached the point I did after several attempts at calmly handling the situation. Hell, I even went so far as to use the exact words at one point that I understand they are free to purchase the films as they see fit and that I have never criticized anyone for their choices in the matter.

I'm half expecting an apology since I have not deserved to be turned into a monster over this situation. I tried damn hard to let that person know that my intentions were neither vicious nor critical and that I was simply making it known that, in light of their "I refuse to spend $100 for the boxset" comment, there are options to acquire the item for $60 or less.

Seriously right now.
Hey Petra, I know that when the EE BD's first came out, we butted heads a bit and we both still have differing opinions about it, but I always thought that you conducted yourself civilly. From what I've read in the last few pages, it sounded to me like you were trying to be helpful.

Back on topic, I can't believe that no one on here has picked up the individual releases yet. I would really like to see some pics of the artwork.

Isn't the point in this instance that they can't make each film fit on a single Blu-ray (of the current generation) without overcompression, and the loss of quality that would bring?

Or so they say. But it's still not a point that I'm buying.

Well, at this point I believe it firstly has to do with content first and foremost. I don't know all of the technical numbers myself, but this is how I see it.

IF... and it's a big IF... WB were to remove all of the commentary tracks and limit the language tracks to minimal quantity, it would be possible to fit the entire of each film onto singular BD discs. However, I don't know how the quality/compression of the video would affect the final presentation.

But, ultimately, you have to consider WB's position on the matter. They would have had to re-invest quite a bit to re-master the entire franchise for Blu-ray in a whole different way in order to make it work in a "single disc per film" way. But, what they did was to take the existing format of the DVD release and have those taken care of as is to save on time and money. It really makes far more business sense to just improve on what they had then risk far more costs in trying to get it all to work on single discs.

I still don't understand the complaining about taking 10 seconds to switch out a disc after 2 hours of watching something. It seriously confounds me that people are that impatient and easily annoyed by such a minor thing. In fact, by that mentality, why aren't all 3 films combined onto a single BD disc so that you can watch the entire "one film trilogy" without having to change any discs at all for 12 hours?

P.S. I know that "one disc to play them all" (see what I did there? ) idea is impossible, but I was just making a point since you would have to switch discs between each of the trilogy installments anyhow.

Well why not call it six movies and charge twice as much selling six individual chapters while you're at it. $$$$$$

Given the corporate mentality of this business, I'm actually surprised that they didn't think of that in the first place. It would be just like those TV-ON-DVD releases that pull "volumes" or "season 1, part 1" bullshit. Now THAT would be a reason to complain. Having to switch out a disc is not reason to complain.

Yep, didn't find anything on the shelves but the theater cuts at BB and Fred Meyer. If someone sees these anywhere, can you snap a photo for those asking to see a physical copy. I don't know the next time I'll be at a FYE or Frys store. Which would probably be the only place that might be carrying them in stores. I can't remember who it was, but I agree with the member who said these will probably be released with Hobbit tickets.

Someone mentioned they could be found at Barnes & Noble.

It is funny you mention that. I was actually thinking I should put that in the list of stores Because originally I was thinking I didn't live by one. Then I remembered there is one a few blocks from my son's Gymboree class. So I'll try and swing by tomorrow and get a few pictures of them for the board. Wish that had been posted earlier and I could have checked today.

Why not? It's in Warner's interest to put the entire movie on one disc. More discs = more money they spend. What would be their motive besides preserving quality? To inconvenience their customers? To drive up production costs?

These things are harder to find than Rosie O'Donnell's wet spot!

Perhaps BB isn't carrying these in-store because they stil have the LOTR EE box set still on the shelf at full list price.
