I love all of these movies so much, I haven't purchased any of them on blu yet, but I think I might just get the theatrical set given the complaining about some colour issue with Fellowship extended. I highly doubt we've seen the last of Lord of the Rings on Blu and I'd bet money that Warner re-releases these movies in some sort of super set with the Hobbit movies eventually. Ideally the set would have all versions of the Lors of the Rings Trilogy plus theatrical and extended cuts for The Hobbit trilogy as well.

Personally, I think too many complain about "double dipping". What we need to remember is that these studios aren't forcing any consumer to "double dip" but rather it's the fault of consumers who want to have it now, instead of just biding their time.
With such releases as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the studios know that they're going to make money, no matter what. If you make a conscious decision to purchase something right when it comes out, then that's the consumer's fault, plain simple. I consider myself as a patient person, when the Extended Edition was first released to Blu-ray, it was $80, sales price, during its street date release. However, I waited a few months later and decided to purchase it during the Christmas 2011 shopping season when the price dropped to $50, that's when I purchased it for $15. The trick is? Don't be impatient to just purchase it right when its released. You can generally get a better deal if you wait a few weeks after its release, you always can get a better deal. |

Certainly can't be complains of double-dipping here...
When the DVDs came out, New Line made it clear from the get-go they'll be 2 releases. You knew the same thing would happen with the BDs. You also know they'll be multiple releases for the Hobbit with/without LOTR with/without 3D... |

I know ... and yet people still complain about these multiple releases. I think everyone has a choice and it's if you choose to purchase multiple copies, then you have that right. Long as you have a copy of the movie, then all is fine and good. I don't regret purchasing the extended edition Blu-ray boxed set. Since I only need one copy of the trilogy to enjoy it, I'm simply fine with the copy I have ...

![]() You just said basically the same thing a page or two back, and in reading the posts that followed your comment, I don't see any posts where people are complaining about "double dipping." I'm sure it likely happened earlier in the thread, and I fundamentally agree with you that people knew this was coming and they could have chosen to wait. But that being said, this comment is completely out of left field given the current conversation going on. Currently there is a back-and-forth going on over the color issue of the EE of Fellowship, and out of nowhere you reiterate this double dipping point, as if many more complaints about it have occurred since the last time you made this point, which hasn't happened. |

I read a post by another member that said he had not planned on buying any further Lord of the Rings releases because he got tired of double dipping ... that's why I decided to comment on the issue about the choices we make on our purchases.
Every so often, when a studio re-releases a DVD or Blu-ray with new bonus features or an extended version of the movie, it brings out the "I hate double dipping" arguments. It's probably back a few pages but I do recall someone posting it, just a few days ago. lols |

In other words, charge me MORE upfront for all of the films and versions. Get it right the first time. Ill gladly pay you for content. On a side note, Id like them to make single films available at release time as well for those that dont want the whole set but I know they aint doin that. ![]() |

Tell me about it. I just hate it when people complain about these multiple releases because they feel they deserve the right to complain. Let's count the number of times New Line has released the trilogy on Blu-ray:
- boxed set of the theatrical versions of all three films in a boxed set - some time later, New Line decided to release the theatrical versions as single releases - the Extended Edition trilogy boxed set is released - each extended edition of each film is released separately Now, you know that New Line will continue releasing, re-releasing and re-re-releasing the trilogy. It's your choice whether you wish to purchase the latest release or you can choose not to. Simply popping in to say "I hate double dipping" or similar remarks defeats the purpose. If you're happy with the version your purchased, then I'm happy for you. But, if you choose to repurchase the trilogy with each new release, then nobody but the consumer is to blame for that. Take a look at Lucasfilm. I can almost guarantee you that at some point down the line, they will release each Star Wars film as a separate release. They did it with the DVD format and they did it with the VHS format. It's how they make their money. You can criticize them all you want but they are in the business of making money. |

Is that the cheapest Amazon's had it so far? And what do you think odds are of a super mega ultra Hobbit & LOTR extended box set? If something like that seems likely then perhaps I'm better off holding off? Even if such a box set wouldn't be seen before 2015 lol....

THEN, I predict, Peter Jackson will have, or will be, converting LOTR to 3D...and there will be some sort of 6 film mega 3D set a few years out. My thought it that at $43.49...I would get the LOTR extended blus now. No sense in waiting for some big boxed set that is at least 2-3 years if not more out into the future. |
