If there is anyone here who actually has 2012 reissue of the LOTR EE trilogy box, pls kindly confirm if 2012 reissue really has more language subtiltes (as at Amazon stated), than original issue? Thanks in advance.

I don't own this yet and have been eyeing it for a while. Not sure if I should buy this because I don't know what's different about this release. Is the aspect ratio different?

Don't go by whatever Amazon has it listed. They just reuse the template they have before, and don't bother to update every single specs. Like others have already mentioned and I also don't own the supposedly new listing, but I can be 99.999999999% sure that it is the same disc.

Just common sense. Unless the rights to distribute the film(or some extras)have changed, No studio except Echo Bridge is going to spend money to remaster the disc to make it worse than before. And this is a lazy set to begin with. They used the same DVD special feature disc from the old DVD set. They didn't even bother to put it in the blu-ray disc, forget about upgrading to HD. They are NOT going to spend money to reauthor their disc to put few more subtitles or crop the pictures so more people can complain. They are going to just sell whatever they have. They are going to do whatever is least expensive. Until some anniversary comes or some ultimate edition comes with the Hobbit movies, I don't expect any new remastering of the disc, and you really shouldn't either.

The 2011 set had digital copies which might be expired now. The 2012 set which is the one amazon.com has on sale for $43 doesn't come with digital copies...I think. I ordered it so it will be here saturday so I don't know for certain.

double dip meaning, new anniversary edition or something that has new extras? Then rest assure, they will not release anything new this year with Hobbit's theatrical release.

For the tie-in with the Hobbits in theater, they are repackaging the same disc for movie only releases(without the DVD with extras) and packaging the already released set with the movie ticket coupon for the Hobbit movie. Nothing new, just movie ticket or one with no extras(but cheaper).

For those who want LOTR digital copies, if you like Vudu you can do the disc-to-digital offer at Walmart.

Bring them your blu-rays and get HDX copies in your Vudu library for $2 each.
Bring oldray DVDs and get HDX for $5 each.

Just go to the photo center at Walmart.

Info available at vudu.com

The problem is the Extended Editions are only available via DVD transfer. Vudu takes a long time to update their disc to digital department. The only way to get HDX right now cheaper is through a member here or buying then selling the Blus. Or just keeping the Blus.

Btw I am looking for Fellowship and Two Towers extended edition vudus if someone here is willing to sale them for $4 or free?? Wishful thinking but I'm just asking!

Can anyone confirm that there are no digital copies with the current set? I'm pretty sure WB extended the expiration codes for their DC's last month so that doesn't worry me so much- but you guys are POSITIVE these sets are from a newer pressing and have the DC codes removed??

Just got back from price matching this at Best Buy to the $43.49 amazon has it for. They didnt look to thrilled. They lost $60 from their regular price of $100. I waited forever and finally got this at a price I could live with. I'm a happy camper today!

What a freaking deal! I've been waiting to buy this set, and when I saw the pricing on Amazon earlier I immediately bought it. I thought I'd get it Saturday thanks to my prime shipping, but it has already shipped! I'll get it tomorrow according to tracking/delivery estimate, and I didn't even place the order until 5:00 p.m. today! This has just been a super slam dunk for me!
