Just when you think the price can't get any lower. I paid $50 last year but $7 isn't that much different. Congrats to all who are getting this set at this amazing price.

That's awesome! I haven't seen the extended versions of the films, either!

I'm with you guys. Never seen them either. I almost bought the DVD versions years ago but that was when I got into bluray and said why bother now. They will come out eventually. And I hated the fact the movie(s) stretched across 2 discs. 4 years later on blurays that hold 50GB and they still stretched it across 2 discs...

Yeah, but these are each longer than your average bear. Errr, film. When you see the image quality (at least of the 2nd and 3rd films) and hear the luscious score in lossless audio, you'll probably be glad they didn't squeeze them down into one disc each.

A repost of factual data.

Oh well, it'll probably drop again once The Hobbit comes out.

I can almost guarantee that it will drop when The Hobbit comes out. But for now, I'm happy to have gotten it for such an awesome price

Default LOTR EXT ED From Amazon

Received my set this morning. They are in widescreen version and there is no 'green' tint as in past issues on FOTR. Sound is DTS HD MA 6.1 and is fantastic. It's no problem for me changing discs in mid movie as the PQ is worth it. Definitely a deal at $43 for the GOLD DEAL of the day and I got it the next day after ordering. Mid-way thru The Two Towers and my sound system is getting quite the work out. Maybe or maybe not it will be offered cheaper after dec release of Hobbit Pt 1, I really don't care. I can retire my DVD trilogy to my son.

The bit rate is high because the films are spread across two discs.

So they've issued a "corrected" disc to retailers with no announcement at all? Although it could happen, I'm afraid I won't be believing it until I see it. Sounds like exactly what happened when the version sans the digital copy was released. There were a raft of posts with people claiming that the re-released set had a corrected version but sure enough screenshots showed it to be exactly the same.

If it is actually corrected then great, good news. I suspect though that it's more likely you might not be noticing the tint, not that it's not there altogether.

i thought the green tint was only a problem for the theatrical version of fellowship..

No, significant DNR is the issue for the theatrical version. Crushed blacks and and overall greenish tint feature on the extended cut.

From Amazon's Black Friday deals:

Quote:
Tuesday, Nov. 20, 8:20 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. PST:
The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (The Fellowship of the Ring / The Two Towers / The Return of the King Extended Editions) [Blu-ray]The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (The Fellowship of the Ring / The Two Towers / The Return of the King Extended Editions) [Blu-ray] - $49.99
Not as cheap as a few days ago but still significantly cheaper than normal.
Also just wondering, is there any difference between this NA version and the UK version?

The outer packaging is similar, but the cases inside are thicker and blue (vs black for the US). The main problem is the extras are on dvd and those are going to be in PAL format.
