To be fair, he was talking about the theatrical version and not the EE there. But yeah, it's a ridiculous statement either way.

finally got around to watching the entire trilogy this weekend... it's been quite a while since i've watched my old DVD versions, but i wasn't bothered in the slightest by the "green tint" during FotR... yes, it does look slightly different than the next 2 movies, but i think the warmer colors actually fit the overall tone of the film. FotR looks green, TT has a more blue hue and RotK is bathed in white... fits each movie perfectly, i think

And then only that one year, cause they haven't brought it back since. The bastards. The stuff was amazing beyond words. |

I'm at the halfway point and all I can say is: Wow! I am forced to retract every unkind word I've uttered about the EE's.
Yes, the first few scenes of LotR have numerous soft shots, but the PQ just seems to get stronger and stronger over the course of the movie. There is lovely grain, numerous luminescent and utterly beautiful gauzy shots later on featuring the elves, and the rest just looks stupendous, with excellent, even superior detail. Yet PQ remains utterly filmic nonetheless. --- The second act is not quite as good; a bit uneven and off kilter in it's storytelling. The use of the "throttle" term is particularly ill-suited. Did they have throttles in middle earth? The comedy is slightly forced. And the use of CG leans towards over-use. Increased clock speeds and a doubling of terabytes allows PJ to indulge in a bit of whimsy, and the "physicality" of TT starts to erode and slip a bit too far into cartoon world. The earnestness of the quest is also beaten into the ground (along with the dull catch phrases 'my precious' and so on) and becomes unduly repetitive. It's still great stuff, but it's arguable that this trilogy could've been better served as an epic two films, but then grandeur always seems forced into trilogy form. --- Great, great stuff so far, and it makes me wish I now had access to all of the bonus features goodies in the big box. |

I apologize if this question was already asked and answered, but can anyone tell me what the difference between these two sets are except the nearly $20 price difference?
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-L...Blu-ray/12237/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-L...Blu-ray/59886/ Amazon sells both, but I can't find anything that shows they are different. |

Look at the Amazon pages again, one version has only basic language subtitles, the other one comes with subtitles in an extended number of languages.

I don't have the 2011 set, so I can't tell you if the digital codes are still valid. Someone will be able to, though. |
