Interesting, so you save $18 by getting more subtitles? Anything else I'm missing, movies should be exactly the same correct?

EDIT:

I don't have the 2011 set, so I can't tell you if the digital codes are still valid. Someone will be able to, though.
Awesome, thanks for both the replies.

I think I got the 2012 package then. Mine also didn't come with the photos of the characters. I didn't have much use for them though so it's no lost.

I dont think all those subtitle languages listed on the 2011 release are accurate .. could be wrong though, but I would say double check to make sure.

but ya the 2012 re-release does not come with digital copies.

If anyone is interested in this set I am selling it for $50 shipped (the re-release without digital copies)

Hey everyone,

Saw this set at Best Buy for $50 and was thinking about asking it for Christmas. I honestly haven't seen LotR since before the Extended Editions came out on DVD (so I have never see the EEs, only theatricals). I was always interested in seeing the EEs, but never got to it...now seems to be the perfect opportunity.

Now my question is, are the Blu-Ray EEs different than the original EEs? I only ask because Wikipedia has three separate running times for the theatrical, EE, and BD EE, respectively, as shown here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lor...es)#Home_media

Did they add even more scenes when they released this on BD? I'm really just curious, not like it would be a bad thing For $50 and finally being able to watch these babies would be a great way to spend some of the free time I'll have on my Christmas break!

No. They are identical content-wise, they just have extended fan credit sequences at the very end of the credits (that's what accounts for the longer listed running times.) The only difference from the original EE's is the altered color timing of FotR (the other two films' color timings remain the same), no new scenes were added to the BD EE's.

The Extended Editions themselves on this BD release is identical to the DVD versions; there are no added scenes. I believe the difference in running time(s) is a result of the fan credits being included.

The fan club credits were included on the DVD as well. I don't know what is up with the different running times on wikipedia, perhaps they just subtracted the time of the fan club credits chapter from the the total?

In any case, the EE is the same exact versions on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Um, why would they be wanting the set if they're watching it? I think you've got a case of premature high-fiving there.

Maybe they don't actually own it themselves, because he did say "I'm now wanting this set badly".

Borrowed? Rented? Watching at a friend/family members house? Bought the individual EE release? God forbid... torrented?

Any number of a dozen possible answers can be applied to your question.

Actually, you can take both those high fives back. What I was referring to was the fact that you were high fiving someone watching the extended edition of FotR and saying they must get it. You assumed of course that it was the Blu-ray and used that as a reason to state that it was someone else for the "green tint isn't an issue" crowd. I figured they could have been watching the DVD and hence my mention of your assumption being premature.

Sure enough it was the DVD so your "unprecedented" second high five can go back in the box with the first because your first one was figuring that the green tint wasn't noticeable when they were watching it (when being the DVD it wasn't there) and your second - well, you're high fiving the fact that they called out my sarcasm. News flash: I was right - they weren't watching the set they wanted to buy, they were watching the DVD. Therefore my sarcasm about you jumping the gun with your assumption was spot on. So you high fived yourself twice and were off on both counts.

So, with all that in mind I think I'm owed these:

Very well... I shall meet you half way and concede the first since the second had to do with him answering your question with something that you were making an assumption about as well but was incorrect on.
