What's wrong with Moria?
I'm not sure what black crush people are talking about, I'm not intimately familiar with the previous transfers but I saw everything just fine. |

Black crush means that the picture is so dark that certain parts of the image have absolutely no detail and there are even problems with noise in those aforementioned parts.

There's so many people here that say the teal push doesn't exist and that the contrast is perfect. It isn't. The other two films look so much better in comparison. There is a problem, but I don't know if Jackson is all that aware of the issue or cares since he is in continuing production for The Hobbit and now Tintin. |

Took the advice of several in this thread and ordered the set a couple of days ago. It arrived yesterday. $7.59 out of pocket after some Amazon trade-in credit. Man, what a beauty. I've got a backlog of stuff to watch, but I'd like to get to these relatively soon.
Planning on seeing how it goes with watching them in one sitting, but I may split each film into two parts based on the disks. |

Wait a sec. You're saying FOTR looks better than TT? Bollocks.

![]() All I can say is that I was more impressed by Fellowship than TT. Its transfer may be fine in that it conveys the theatrical appearance, but it's just not a great looking movie overall, IMO. Last edited by 42041; 12-14-2012 at 05:49 PM. |

This is the same as the first, exccept it as a lenticular cover and comes with $5 towards the Hobbit in theatres. Plus it's cheaper: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lord-Of-Th...creen/21907401 |

![]() That shows a significant portion of detail on the cave now gone due to crushed blacks. Now the next link you may be familiar with, unless of course someone over at AVS is posting with exactly the same username you are here. Assuming that is you, 17 months ago you posted a comparison between the FOTR transfer and the flasbacks to FOTR footage featured in ROTK. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1307189/th...#post_20667855 Both your "bollocks" tint and crushed blacks are really obvious. Detail of the wraith cloaks (folds, arms) gets lost in crushed blacks while mist turns from grey to teal. The numerous shots of the forest also show both issues - sunlight streaming through the trees is dull, whites are non-existent in any shot and detail of Boromir's clothing is lost. So are you saying that you aren't seeing the difference in your own screenshots? As for the whole "it's the way Peter Jackson always wanted it" argument, while I can certainly buy that some corrections were needed (not all the film was processed in the same way the last two were - I seem to recall a 60% figure having been bandied about) IF that were the case then ROTK's footage should have also been corrected yes? After all, if Peter Jackson was afforded the opportunity to re-tint an entire film surely he would have been able to replace those few shots of flashbacks with the "correct" footage... |
