Just picked up the Target FotR EE. I'll weigh in on my opinion of the Green Tint issue once I watch it...probably tonight.

Finally finished up the EE of Fotr. The green tint didn't bother me past the opening titles, even the much focused on snowy mountain shots didn't seem out of place. What did bother me, was the inconsistent color timing of the inserted scenes. I know it's been years since I last watched my DVD copy...but were they really that bad? Like the close ups of Gandalf when he's talking to Frodo before they reach the Gates of Moria. It's a fuzzy gray mush without any details...it looks cheap. Especially when it's contrasted with scenes colored timed for the theatrical release.

Are the added scenes in the other two more visually consistent?

Just watched FotR Theatrical cut last night and the coloring was really nice. I have to admit that I really want the EE but it's hard to justify paying 4-8x as much for EE as I did for the theatrical cut BR. Plus, I don't know how I feel about the new tint that they put on the EE. I kind of wish they would have left the color alone as I don't see any major issues with it in the Theatrical cut blu-ray.

I have watched both cuts numerous times and did not notice a large difference except for the added teal tint. Even the black crush that is present in the EE is also present in the TE.

I think you have some gamma and/or brightness setting issues going on, bro.

The scene that hurt me the most was Gandalf riding to Bag End. In the DVD, it's sunny and green, with the light shimmering off the leaves. In the EE BD, it's feels gray-teal and subdued, with no real light. You have to set your TV to "torch mode" or just increase the contrast to see things pop again.

Granted it's not as excessive as in the EE, but it's there nonetheless.

It's close to night, therefore overcast. The party is about to begin.

The scene he's talking about is not close to night, it's in full daylight and it's bright and sunny out.

Did anyone else have 2 copies of Part One in their Return of the King? The Part Two has different artwork but they put the same movie on there as Part One. Kind of frustrated that I will have to buy the movie only blu-ray now so I can finish watching....

Question

Wasn't there a color corrected Fan version (same cut as the regular Extended one but without trhe teal push) of "The Fellowship of the Ring"?

It's my favorite of the Middle Earth films and I own the orignal Canadian 15 disc Blu-Ray version and also bought the Extended Editions on DVD and "Fellowship" as "Theatrical" Blu-Ray.

I really dislike the green sunglass edition of Fellowship on the Extended BD...

I ended up customizing a "cold" picture setting for FoTR. It pulled out a lot of the green and yellow and made things look more natural. made whites more "true". I also turned dynamic contrast on "low" but then turned the master contrast setting down, so that it didn't get out of hand. This helped return the brightness hit you take when doing a colder image. and finally, I turned dynamic color on "low". this puts green back into things that should be green, like grass. and adds depth to blues. Overall it looks pretty good. A little bit de-saturated, but half of that issue is inherent in the fact that highlights/contrast is blown out for a lot of scenes. Particularly indoors or at Sarumon's place.

For Elrond, I switched back to my calibrated setting, Since Elrond overall has a truer color grade.

I need help from you guys.I need to download and print the cover of The Return of the King EE that came on the boxset, but i can't find anywhere.I only find the region B covers. My boxset came with 2 The Two Towers, with the third movie missing.Anyone here had the same problem?I want to buy the individual release and replace the cover.I'm from Brazil,so would be very expensive to me to return the boxset to Amazon.
