THe preemptive reveal of the Dead Army is my single biggest gripe of all the EE additions. Really takes the power out of the moment that Aragorn jumps out of the boat.

I watched all three on my front projector not too long ago it was a LOT of fun to watch these on a big screen. Fellowship and Two Towers take on a nice film-like look in particular. Return of the King looks goods, but looks a tiny bit more digital. A lot of controversy over the color timing of Fellowship, but I think it looked great, overall.

I hope WB issues a big extensive 30-something disc box set of the Hobbit and LOTR films like they did for Harry Potter (Hogwarts Collection)

Those kinda sets are a nightmare. Every extra disc increases the chance of getting a bad disc/discs. Smaller, matched sets that cover individual movies or trilogies are safer. How long is it gonna take you to watch/test 30 discs?

I had to run every single disc (all 31 of them) through a program called VSO Inspector with my Blu-ray drive on my PC in order to check all of them in the Harry Potter: Wizards Collection. That set was notorious for having many manufacturing defects, and I found 4 bad discs out of the lot which would have taken me months to find had I had to find the time to watch all of them. So that was definitely a bit of a pain but WB was good about replacing the discs for me.

Alas, I don't yet have a BD drive, but that sounds like a program I'm gonna have to get as soon as I do. Thanks!

I watched the theatrical version of Return of the King on Blu-Ray last week since I bought the steelbooks of the movies. The last time I watched the theatrical all the way through was probably at least 8 or 9 years ago. I mainly wanted to watch because when I go see ROTK in Concert next week it's the theatrical version, not the extended edition.

I guess I never thought of that! Good point! I have the Superman Anthology DVD tin and the last disc was scratched all to hell and barely playable.

Default No longer including Digital Copy?

Got my package from Amazon. Are they no longer including digital copy codes with this set? Most reviews mentioned they were included by I cannot locate any in the box set I received.

They only offered them when the set was first released back in May 2012.

The box is also different in the newer sets. I don't have a picture showing the difference (maybe someone can post one), but if I recall, the original box had an extra "flap" or "wall" which had a map (?) on it. I think that's all that was changed, but ...

Urgh no, I hope in future sets, all of the SD content is compiled onto a single 50GB Blu-ray disc.

Only reason those DVDs were used is because it would be cheap to just reprint the EE ones.

Dude, this is Warners. They will repress every damned dirty disc that they can get their hands on for the eventual Tolkien megaset. DVDs, BDs, the whole schmeer. If we're lucky we'll get a single bonus disc with deleted scenes and the gag reels.

I just received this and I have to say I am really disappointed in the quality of the cases. Each one fell apart (where the disc is held onto the tray and several long pieces of plastic fell out of each case as well. The discs aren't damaged but the cases are nearly unusable. I am not sure how well these will hold up taking the discs in and out.

And its brand new. I am worried how well the discs will be protected. Anyone else have this happen?

Did you buy it from Amazon? Just return it and exchange it.

Yes I did. I called amazon a few mins ago and they are sending a new set when they get it in. I opened it again to check something and more plastic fell out, so this set is def damaged.
