Oh I love nc17 humour. I missed your comment. I feel like I've missed out on a gem if it's been reported. Oh well. What did it involve?

They got it back in stock and issued a replacement. The funny thing was that another order (Bond 50 collection) placed 15 days after LOTR also hasn't arrived so I contacted them and they issued another replacement and both packages (LOTR EE and Bond 50) will be delivered on the same day.

Amazon also upgraded the shipping for both packages to AmazonGlobal priority so they will arrive in 4 days.

When I recieve the packages I will send an email complaining about their so called "Expedited International Shipping - No Tracking" option because 2 packages using that shipping haven't arrived and that is 100% failure rate compared to 100% success rate using AmazonGlobal Priority using UPS and DHL and 100% success rate from Amazon Marketplace using USPS and other carriers.

I've searched a bunch of different retailers, and so far Hastings is the cheapest I've found currently at $59.99 (plus shipping)

Unless you absolutely need it now, I'd wait. It always goes to ~$40 around Black Friday.

I hope there's a proper badass mega super duper boxset of all six extended films plus the new films in 3D plus all the special features and documentaries in the pipeline. I've been holding out on my favourite trilogy all this time...

This is Warner so you can bet there will be such a release for the 2015 holiday season.

But being Warner, don't you think they'll leave something out so you have to double-dip?

And being Warner, they'll just repackage the same discs already available in a new case and throw in some toys.

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies will not be released on Blu-ray untill first quarter of 2016 and add another 7-8 months for the Extended release.

I would say a 6 Extended set would be available in 2017.

I would say that in 2018 we'll get a release that has:
  • The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition 4K 48fps 3D BD
  • The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition 4K 48fps 3D BD
  • The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition 4K 48fps 3D BD
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Followship of the Ring 4K 24fps 2D BD
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 4K 24fps 2D BD
  • The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King 4K 24fps 2D BD
  • All Supplemental Features on 1080p BD

Dream on.

For one we haven't heard sh!t if 4KBD will support 3D.

And the other fact is that the DI wasn't finished in 4K for the original trilogy.

The theatrical release of Battle of the Five Armies is December 17, 2014. The blu-ray release of the theatrical cut of Battle of the Five Armies will be released in the first quarter of 2015. Sometime in March or April. The Extended Edition will come out in November 2015.

Exactly, which is why I said that we should expect a six film box of at least the theatrical cuts by the 2015 holidays.

...and is exactly why I think it will be 2018 when we get a 4K 48fps 3D release. We have to get 4K BD released and proven first (end of 2015 4K BD release, 2016-2017 4K BD proven and added to homes, 2018 4K box set author and release).

No, Warner will turn this into as many SKUs as possible. Here's how it will probably play out:

Q4 2015: Theatrical 6 film set for 2D and for 3D
Q4 2016: Extended 6 film set for 2D and 3D
Q4 2017 (maybe sooner): Theatrical 6 film set for 4K BD in 2D and 3D (48 fps)

I doubt the extended versions will be available in 48 fps, but you never know with 4K BD.

I'll probably buy it, regardless. It could come out in 20 years, and lord willing, I would get it.
