I kind of wonder if the green tint was just a foul-up by WB and a subsequent desire not to replace two discs per person.

Maybe he had a torrid affair with Liv Tyler once, and watching the trilogy brought him pain and agony.

I would believe he got a nasty and awkwardly placed paper cut from a Liv Tyler poster.

As much as I love the LOTR extended versions, the downside is that they started the whole "extended version" craze of the last decade, which resulted in a lot of unnecessary, often really bad extended versions created by the studios, a lot of times without the involvement or consent of the director.

Has that even been confirmed as forthcoming?

By the way Peter Jackson said he offered to re-edit the entire thing into an extended-extended cut using even more unseen scenes for the forthcoming 20th anniversary and the studio turned him down.

Peter Jackson has always wanted to do that and he’s talked about it a lot when he was planning on releasing a Complete Middle-Earth collection. WB just didn’t want to pay him to go back and do it.

What other scenes are there? Obviously the bigger ones, like Tom Bombadil and such, but what ones were actually filmed and still left out of the extended editions?

First I've heard of another extended cut, but according to Michael Pellerin who produced the extra docs on all the Middle Earth films, he offered to go back and produce a mammoth documentary on everything (and I mean EVERYthing) from the earliest pre-production stages to the release of the films since everything was documented. These were to include something like 2-4 hours of unreleased footage, outtakes, bloopers, and deleted scenes. But WB balked.

Im sure there’s a comprehensive list somewhere but off the top of my head:

A sequence where Arwen and Elrond Visit Lothlorien in two towers. There were production images of Arwen at the mirror of Galadriel and a snippet of a scene was in some of the special features. This was replaced with the “psychic conversation” between Elrond and Galadriel.

Arwen at Helm’s Deep

Other Arwen stuff in various trailers (one where she is standing on a bridge and Elrond says “I cannot protect you anymore” from the final ROTK traile)

UrukHai going into the Helms Deep cave with Eowyn fighting them (there’s a shot of Eowyn lifting her sword with bloody hands in the Two Towers preview on the fellowship DVD)

This makes me legitimately angry. There’s no way that that wouldn’t sell.

This calls for a Kickstarter! lol

I can't remember where I read it but it was a fairly recent interview or article - probably focused mainly on his forthcoming Beatles project and/or the WW1 documentary.

He's mentioned an "ultimate extended cut" as a possibility on and off over the years so it was a shame to hear WB had said no. Not sure if it was a cost issue or they want to put some distance between the Jackson movies and the forthcoming TV series.

Not sure all of the Arwen at Helm's Deep stuff would slot back into the films - that was a story thread they abandoned fairly early on even though some stuff was shot.

I know there was a scene shot where Aragorn has to sneak past an Orc camp to get back to Helm's Deep before the battle - plus alot of extra battle sequences from Helm's Deep (including the Eowyn stuff mentioned above).

There was also a sequence which showed what might happen to Frodo should he take Gollum's path and succumb to the ring. They actually shot a montage of Frodo turning into a Gollum like creature much like the Gollum sequence seen at the start of the third film. Elijah Wood has mentioned how annoyed he was that it was cut because they made him spend days in makeup. I think - I'm not sure - it slotted in around the time Faramir holds him at Ithilien which means it would come before the Gollum sequence which ended up at the start of the third film. Maybe that's why it was cut as they really need to be the other way round to work properly.

Those extra scenes sound great, I'm sure I'd buy this series yet again if they released even longer cuts.

Come to think of it, I do remember hearing about those scenes. Sounds like alot of Arwen footage was cut, which is a shame. I like her character, but she's really only a major presence in Fellowship. Would have loved to have seen her interact with Galadriel. (Come to think of it, is there any time in the movies when 2 women interact with each other? Been a while since I've seen them).

The Eowyn one I think I remember seeing or reading about somewhere around the time of the movie's release. Or maybe it was in one of the video games? Where the orcs break in to the stronghold. Would have been a nice spin on the whole "Men fight off creatures while women and children hide" cliche (although GoT did that fairly recently, too). I'd have liked to have seen it.

I would love to see all of these deleted scenes; they don't have to be put into another extended cut. I'd just like to be able to see them in good quality.

More Galadriel would be a good thing.

Default The Quest Is Over: Possess The Complete Adventure on Blu-ray!

I just finished cataloging this release in DVD Profiler. Created profiles for the release as a whole, for each movie, and for each disc. For the disc level profiles I included disc specific front cover images, text being added to the bottom of each image calling out the particular disc. (Makes for a much nicer experience when browsing by cover image for a disc to play.) Turned out pretty nice I think. Thought I'd share the images. Enjoy!

I really want to see the footage shot with Gimli and Legolas during the ending for ROTK.
