I literally just saw this on Amazon and remastered BD's interest me - but is there a version without DVDs? This one has 15 discs (6 BDs and 9 DVDs) - are the DVD's the extras?

Yes. It’s the same as 2011 BD set only they’re the 2020 remastered versions of the films.

Hmm I was kind of planning on getting the UCE here, but kind of disappointed with it ultimately.
Kind of feeling like the Limited Collector's Edition (Bookshelf Set) would be a more worthy purchase at this point. There aren't any known counterfeits of that edition are there? I see some floating around on Ebay that seem too good to be true. Though I think this set went for like $100-200 at one point from retailers, so maybe not? Of course what I'd really like to get is the "flip box" version of The Hobbit movies, Extended Edition. But seems I'm more likely to find a leprechaun. I know the "slipcover box" set is widely available, but my 1st World desire is to have The Hobbit EE set match my LOTR EE set. i.e. ![]() While the Bookshelf Set is some serious Nerd cred, it also doesn't fit on a regular media shelf so that puts me off a bit as I don't really have a good shelf space for it. So if I could get that particular Hobbit EE Trilogy set I'd be quite content. Then I can mule over whether I get the 4Ks or Theatrical editions later. Or maybe I should just wait for the Limited Ultimate Deluxe Collector's Edition that will inevitably be released, truly complete in features, and like $1000. |

Yeah, that green tint needs to go, but it's not as egregious as those screen grabs seemed to indicate. Everyone is familiar with the shot of the green snow, but it looks nowhere near as bad in motion.

Do we know yet if the new remastered LOTR EE Blu-ray set (the one that's not the 4K megaset) will have a nice "flip box" to match the old one? I fear it'll be a thin slip like the later Hobbit version. |

If you watch the movie with the lights on with bright 7000K LED lighting, yes, there is a tint in some scenes, but it was not a "mistake" like some want to believe, and they certainly did not "forget" to turn off some LUT in their color grading software. ![]() The 2011 Extended FOTR looks excellent to me in a proper viewing environment. I'm not preordering the remastered blu's just yet, waiting to know if it was created from the botched 4k upscales. |

I'm not sure what to do about the remastered LOTR BDs here in the UK. Haven't upgraded to 4K yet so it's a question of how much better the remasters are likely to be compared to the previous set. While I'd like to see FOTR with the green tint, if that means excessive DNR I'd probably have to pass.
One thing I'm confused about though is at the moment the extended version is said to consist of 18 BDs, does that mean the appendices have been transferred from DVD to BD for this set? If so, presumably they will still be in SD. And what are the other 3 BDs (the previous set only had 15 discs)? If the HMV release genuinely is limited edition I don't want to miss my chance to get it. |
