I just want a review and some screen captures of the remastered Blu-rays. Hopefully soon.

Absolutely bonkers decision. I really disliked the Hobbit movies, so thats a non-starter getting the 6 movie pack. And since HMV won't ship outside the UK, theres no way to get them in Ireland?! What is WB playing at?

Lol, I ordered the 2012 set because of the sale, and I love that the discs came in 4K Ultra HD cases so they could be black cases.

So it looks like the new set was delayed due to supply chain issues. Now, it's just a waiting game before we get some reviews.

Literally the opposite case for me. I legit find that the green/sallow grading on FOTR is so off-putting that I cannot watch the extended blu-ray. Cannot. It makes me ill to look at it. And FOTR is my favourite of the trilogy by far.

But then, overdone green/sallow grading is epidemic with blu-rays in general, I find, especially more recently "remastered" blus. (For example, every new blu edition of First Blood and Total Recall seems to get worse and worse, colour wise.)

It's just that with Fellowship, the graders appear to have pushed the discolouration so far that it's even too much for viewers who can usually stand the sickly greenish filtering that's so popular these days.

Hopefully these remasters LOTR releases will be the rare exception of a remastering that pushes the colours back toward a more appealing, natural spectrum.

Will the Appendices be able to play on a US Blu-Ray player or will they be in PAL format?

I think this Remastered/Extended TLOTR trilogy-only Blu-ray set is being released in equivalent (if not identical) format -and an 'unlimited' edition- in the United States, isn't it?

I know they're gonna be released in the US, but if there's a UK set that has them playable in the US and The Hobbit trilogy, might as well get that and save some money.

That being said, I'm not gonna be heartbroken if it isn't.

Where are you getting this information? Not that I don't believe you -- I do! -- I'm just genuinely curious about your sources. Is the date being officially pushed back, or is it just that sets probably won't arrive until a few weeks after the "official" release date?

Thanks!

Most websites have the listing date already changed, Amazon, Target, etc. It was posted by a few websites already that there is a supply chain issue and that these were pushed back, as well as all the Mad Max 4K releases.

Here is the Amazon listing.

I'm guessing the remaster is just the NEW 4K disc masters on 2K BDs?

Probably. Hopefully we get some reviews for this soon, as it's less than a month out and something this big you would think the reviews should start soon.

I'm curious if this is merely a repackaging of the previously released set. The advertising says "remastered" but I'm having doubts about that because the ads seem to give the impression that this is the first time it's being released.

People in the UK already have it via the middle earth package. It’s not the older transfers.

Thanks. I thought it might be the same transfer as the one in the currently $29.99 release that's on sale at Amazon.

Yeah, but now the debate begins as to which transfers are better. Most seem to lean towards the old set, but I'm getting the new one because I want the tint from Fellowship gone.

Are any of these reviews posted? What don't people like? Are the disks low bitrates, or is it that they just don't like the visual changes first seen in the 4K disks? Like noise reduction and re-coloring, like the B&W shots in Two Towers and so forth?

How do the remastered blus stack up against the 4K disks? I'm interested in getting this set, just for the theatrical cuts. I already have the old (superior?) extended disks.

Hold on -- they put B&W shots in the Two Towers? WTH?

Well, that's pretty appalling.

On the other hand, I just compared the two different colour grades at Caps-A-Holic, and to the credit of the new set, they seemed to have made TT less over-tealified and restored more natural sky blues and such. So that's definitely a mark in its favour.

Very little has been said by those that have it, but I guess it's just the same issues of the 4K set as the DNR is still there and obvious during fast moving scenes. That's all that was really said in the 4K page.
