So, should I return my recently purchased 2012 Extended set and 2010 Theatrical set? If both of the new remastered sets contain the same bonus features as the older ones, the upgrade makes sense right? I only have another week or so before the return window ends so I don’t want to miss out..

-return the 2012 Extended set (and get the Remastered Extended set) -keep the 2010 Theatrical set (and forego the Remastered Theatrical set) The 2010 theatrical release of FOTR does not have the notorious puke-green tint of the Extended edition, so it's entirely watchable. Plus, this way, you'll have an interesting basis for comparing the two different grading approaches overall. I'm still waiting for my remastered Extended set to come in (should be some time this week) but based on the screencaps I've seen, it's a no-brainer: the remastered TT and ROTK do look better than the 2012 versions, while the remastered FOTR is so far superior to the unwatchable 2012 Fellowship of the Green as to be beyond comparison. |

Pro's: Fellowship no longer has green tint Better Compression Better color on all three films Certain scenes have more detail Con's: More DNR Some scenes have less detail Some revisionism with color in certain scenes CGI looks a bit more dated due to colors Overall, I still think the remastered set is the clear winner |

To be honest, I actually swapped out the discs from the old set with the new set. The old extended box is actually much nicer than the new release. Sturdy and make the films feel more epic. The new set's box feels flimsy and doesn't have the same momentous feeling as the original extended film boxset, but again the new set has the three additional discs that were present in the original extended set. (Not sure about the theatrical) Last edited by DukeTogo84; 11-14-2021 at 04:35 PM. |

I probably could get a better response from an inanimate object at this point.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Love the black blu-ray cases as well and it looks great next to The Hobbit Extended Set. |

It's clear to me, I 100% disagree, and that's fine. I personally don't mind DNR in some scenes for better colors and some detail in certain scenes. It's a trade off for sure, at your milage may vary, but the remastered Blu-rays blow the old set out of the water. I don't want to turn this into another pissing contest, so again, feel free to disagree.

I'm not sure why you're always so insecure that you can't accept any opinion that's different than yours and that you need to go out of your way tell people they are wrong. I try to be respectful to you without telling you that you're wrong even if that's what I think. You don't have to to start a debate over everything to try and stroke your ego. |

The debate which you are saying doesn't exist, is which release looks better? Yes, some fine detail is removed, but other scenes actually have more detail where DNR was not as applied. I've seen details on the films that I never even noticed. (Gothmog looks creepier than ever) Overall, the new color does in fact make this look more appealing. It's a shame about the DNR, but I've seen it applied far worse in numerous films. It's a shame that's it's there, but it's not a deal breaker. If you want the films to look just like they used to look, then yes, this release might not be for you as there are a lot of liberties taken with color and revisionism. As I mentioned before, people are adults. They can look at the screen caps and make their own decision without you telling people they are right or wrong. |

Is the de-gamma-rayed FOTR Extended / standard Blu-ray only available in this set or can it also be bought separately? Just want to make sure before opening my Remastered set.
