The 4Ks have absolutely horrible picture. It's so bad that I think the few people who thought it was great must've been smoking something. The sound on the other hand is amazing. Rather than just cranking levels like they did with the video, they went back to all the original sound elements and built reference Atmos mixes for all three films. Just the last hour-ish of TROTK is among the greatest things I've ever heard. It literally sounded like you were there. In an era when the studios regard Atmos as little more than a word to put on the package to justify a higher cost, and I question whether all those extra speakers are just there for show, a track like TROTK is so legendary that it belongs in every collection. My honest suggestion is pick up that massive set when you get it cheap (no more than $100, be patient and it will happen) for the soundtracks. No bones about it, the picture sucks. The special features are paltry but exclusive. To PissedOffPeoN, I'm a little confused with your post. Are you saying the remastered Blus have less DNR than the 4Ks (first time I heard this, I admittedly only played the 4Ks), or that the original Blus have less DNR? |

I don't see this discussed at all, but doesn't it bug anyone else that the 4K version of TTT doesn't have a green tint, like the original theatrical version had (at least when I saw it at the cinema when I was 8 in 2002) and I believe some of the early BR release?
Everyone talks about the green-ish tint of FOTR, but TTT had a very distinct green tint to it in the old versions, especially the scenes involving Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf. I really didn't like how the 4K version removes that tint and made it look more "stock". What do you think? |

That green tint that makes the Shire look like it's under rain clouds is gone. "Intentional", my ass. The same thing as the Star Wars SE DVDs having flopped rear-surrounds. "Intentional".
No, just didn't want to take a bath in recalls and disc exchanges. |
