It’s not a movie, it’s… it’s… cinema!

It's three movies. Arguably, the best trilogy in cinematic history.

OK, so we got a hot take here. I bought the extended edition Blu-ray for 20 bucks at a used bookstore at the beginning of the month, unfortunately already watched the whole trilogy on DVD the week before. I just now finished watching a few scenes like the Balrog scene, the Prologue, the Concerning Hobbits sequence, and the end battle of Fellowship of the Ring.

It’s clearly not just a green tint. There is obviously a push to orange in the highlights. Bilbo’s study is far warmer than the DVD. It’s not just pure green slathered over the screen like too much butter over too little bread. Besides, it’s nearly invisible if you’re properly engrossed. It’s my opinion that people who flip out over color grading aren’t watching the movie. They’re watching a mental behind-the-scenes featurette. You’re not supposed to be looking at the screen going “oh golly that sure is blue!” Just watch the freaking movie and ignore the color. Or correct it yourself. In the end, it’s entertainment. You’re not supposed to get so angry about entertainment.

OK end of unnecessarily angry rant written at almost 9 o’clock. Also feel free to ignore me. I’ve had a tough day.

This confuses me. Youre saying its not just a green tint? You said you bought the Extended blurays recently. I presume you mean remastered versions? If so there isnt a green tint..

I mean the 2011 Extended Edition Blu-rays. The ones that people hate. I was saying it’s a teal-orange grade overlayed over the original master, not a simple green tint.

I've decided to re-watch all the old bonus features for this trilogy, and I'm like 99% sure that I've got every unique bonus disc, but I wanted to double check here to see if I'm missing anything. This is NOT including different cuts / remasters of the movies or commentaries. And I'm mainly going by what I have, so there may be omissions.

Only focusing on The Fellowship of the Ring for this post:
-Theatrical edition bonus DVD included with the original theatrical DVD and the original theatrical Blu-ray trilogy release

-Original theatrical edition Blu-ray includes six trailers on the movie disc: Two teasers, a final trailer (those three from the original DVD bonus disc), a "Supertrailer" for the whole trilogy, one for the Aragorn's Quest video game, and one for the War in the North video game. The remastered theatrical edition Blu-ray drops the two video game trailers.

-Extended Edition movie DVD disc 1 has an Easter egg of the Jack Black Council of Elrond which was included on the original Extended Edition Blu-ray disc 1, as well as the remastered Extended Edition Blu-ray disc 1

-Extended Edition movie DVD disc 2 has an Easter egg preview trailer for Two Towers that's also included on the original Extended Edition Blu-ray disc 1, as well as the remastered Extended Edition Blu-ray disc 1

-Two Extended Edition bonus discs 3 and 4 with the original Extended DVD and the original Extended trilogy Blu-ray release

-The National Geographic DVD included with the original Extended DVD giftset

-The Costa Botes documentary included with the "Limited Edition" DVD (the one with both versions on a double-sided disc) and the original Extended trilogy Blu-ray release

And of course the 4K versions of the movies only have the movies on their discs. Did I forget anything?

Do the remastered theatrical blurays not have the special features form the bonus disc anymore?

The remastered theatricals don’t come with any special features just the movies. The remastered extended versions come with 9 DVDs with the bonus material.

FWIW, this release has the remastered version of all six films' extended cuts, the appendices that originally came with the extended editions release, and the bonus features disc that originally came with the theatrical versions releases, for 30 discs total (6 for each LotR film and 4 for each The Hobbit film).

There's a previous release that uses the original discs if people prefer those transfers.

Amazon has the 2021 remastered BD on sale for $27.50 but I'm probably going to pass. If a new edition comes along where they don't tamper with the picture (excessive DNR) I will get it.

You'll be waiting indefinitely. Best to get the UHD set as that's the best there is right now.
