I could handle waiting until then if it means a better release. I know this is all speculation right now but I could see that being the case. I've got enough blu's to buy right now.

I should try to get rid of my box set. These would be nice, but I got to get them for less than $84.00

That is complete speculation. Someone said that they expect that there will be an even grander set which will include the LOTR movies and the Hobbit movies. While it seems likely that they will all be put in one set, there is NO evidence that the LOTR movies will be better versions than the ones coming out in a few weeks. This is the same kind of thing as when people speculate that there will be EE editions of the Hobbit movies just because there were EE editions of the LOTR movies. Then it becomes fact in people's minds when in fact it is pure fantasy at this point in time. (irony intended)

A few years back LOTR was released on DVD as Limited Editions (which included both extended AND theatrical versions of the trilogy); included in said set were all-new behind the scenes documentaries for each of the three films (if I'm not mistaken they were filmed during the production of the film by the cast/crew ala Jackson's King Kong Production Diaries).

They are being included in the blu-ray box set along with the docs from the Extended Edition DVDs.

I have a question. Can you tell me if there are any news regarding the spoken languages on the movies?

I ask because I see there's English and Portuguese, but I'm guessing there has to be an Spanish track also, but nothing says so. Any of you have clues about this? I'll really appreciate your feedback.

Thank you in advance, and if it has that track, I'll pre-order right away on Amazon, so I can have it in less than a month here in Argentina!

Note: I don't want the Spanish Track for me, but for my little brothers...

The Costa Botes docs are fly on the wall raw documentaries showing what really goes on on a movie set. You see the ugly side of things and the day to day grind along with the good. They aren't all glamorized and shiny like what you get with most supplemental features.

The so-called "Ultimate Editions" (re: greed editions) will probably not come out until The Hobbit comes out on blu, which won't happen for another 3+ years.

This release BETTER have a good transfer!

Not unless a store offers some type of coupon/discount that you can use for it.

You're unfortunately right. If this release is of good quality, I'll be quite content with it and pass on an Ultimate edition.

It all depends on how and where you shop. My pre-order at Borders.com was $52.49 (after extra $10 GC for screwing up my order and 50% off coupon) from Borders.com (-$4.95 from Ebates = $47.54) . But even if you add the $10 (from the GC) back into it, you could have gotten it for about $58. Watch these forums for great deals.

I would think that if/when an ultimate set comes out, that they will very likely just use the exact same transfer from this upcoming release. They apparently have already remastered Fellowship, and the other two already look pretty good.

I just don't understand why someone would wait until the year 2014 to possibly own these on the off chance a better release might come along. But to each their own, I guess.

Meanwhile, while those people are hoping the vaporware appears sometime in the future, the rest of us will enjoy actually watching it.

No Spanish audio, sorry. Subtitles only. The languages listed here are up-to-date with what is on the actual discs.

Thanks Rik1138, and I have to say I'm sorry to hear that...
Anyway, I'll have to wait until they put that track (maybe in some Argentinian Edition), and in the meantime, I'll find a way to actually see it, at least on a bt file... =(

I noticed on the "other" site that the Gods and Generals Blu-Ray transfer has been criticized for compression artifacts. Weren't people citing that as an example of putting 4-hour movies onto a single disc? Guess it's not such a great idea after all.

Cost is the only prohibitive factor for me buying this set-- a lot of it is buying the same DVD's that I already own. So I'll probably wait for a price drop or something, unless I get wind that Jackson really is going to release new editions of the films with the Hobbit later on.

I am glad that they will be split over two discs. It can't hurt to give them more room to strech out.

As far as the price, why not sell your DVDs and put the $ towards the EE blus?

Edit: Apparently, the Gods and Generals Blu-Ray transfer has been criticized for compression artifacts on this site too.

Firstly 5* for the movie. Been waiting for the Hi-Def Extended edition. Thank you New Line.

Secondly, here's a logical reason for having two disks, and it's basic mathematics. Here goes, hope some of you learn some lessons here:

A Dual Layer Blu-Ray 50GBytes of storage = 400 G Bits of data (there are 8 bits in a bytes - remember this from Tron)

One 400 G/Bits Blu-Ray at around 210 Minutes per Movie = 12,600 Seconds of Movie. Therefore on a Dual Layer 50GB Blu Ray the average bit rate you could force on it for 210 Minutes of footage is 400,000,000,000 / 12,600 Seconds = 31.746031 MBits per second.

Now, as we all know the Max Blu Ray Bit rate is Spec'd at 36 Mbits/second. So, you will NEVER NEVER fit a full highest quality 1080P movie at 36 Mbits/sec. OK, so the average bit rate will not always be needed at 36 Mbits/sec (* see note below!), but lets face it technically you'd bee pushing it to compromise on Quality by sqeezing it on 1 Disk.

Obviously Audio / Alternate sound tracks adds to the bit rate, although to be honest a couple of 192Kilobyte/sec audio tracks is a small % of that needed for video. The Main DTS would be 754K/bits per second so a bit more of a chunk into the 36MBits.

So, no way people. technically the movie WOULD BE INFERIOR is fitted onto 1 disk. Get real!

You seem to want New Line to defy the laws of physics - no way, so give it a rest hey over the number of Disks. You can't do it technically at 1080P.

EDIT: Thanks to the people who queried the 36MBbs rate. This is, obviously(!), the spec of 1x Speed Data read rate - the minimum requirment of the most basic BD-ROM reader. You are correct the overall Blu-ray spec allow much highter Video rates! 1.5 Speed at present or 54Mbps combined Video and Audio!
Is this a good enough reason for the films being on 2 discs?
