Another thing he's forgetting with regards to audio:
DTS is 1.5MB, not 756kb (it _can_ be 756kb, but the studios all use 1.5MB). And that's just the core stream. There's lossless audio on it as well, which usually averages in 2-3MB range, at least (I've seen it peak over 7MB...). So, not only does that take up a HUGE amount of the bandwidth, it also physically ties up a lot of space on the disc. DTS-HD MA for an average 2-hour feature is usually somewhere around 3-4GB in size. And there's _two_ DTS lossless tracks on LOTR EE. Bottom line though: They did try to make it fit on one disc, but the video quality did not meet their expectations, and the idea was scrapped. They didn't just arbitrarily make it two discs for the hell of it, they did it because it was the only way to make it look as good as Jackson wants it to look. Yeah, it comes with a built-in pee break, but trust me, you will appreciate the picture quality. ![]() |

I thought that AVC was just another name for MPEG4 but that VC-1 was Microsoft's sponsored CODEC that wasn't part of the MPEG family. (?)

I'm sure it will be cheaper by then, but I don't think I can wait that long. I have the TE blu-ray boxset in mint condition, and I'll be selling it and putting the money towards this set.
![]() I just really hope that the Fellowship remaster is not just them adding edge enhancement and noise reduction. ![]() |

That said, totally skipping this release. I'm barely a casual fan of the films (only really seen them all the way through once). I refused to buy the incomplete versions, and this time around I'm skipping it because I simply don't need 9 DVDs of crap I don't want and wouldn't watch anyway. If they had just been on a Blu or two, I may have bitten, but I'll just Netflix or borrow the films should I want to watch them again. I just refuse to spend that much for a big box of crap DVDs that I will never watch and don't want. It's odd that I might have paid it had they scrunched them onto a Blu or two, but I just can't justify buying this for the once or twice I'll probably watch them with all those extra useless discs. Strange, but true. |

And here we go again...
No offense guys. I'm just figuring that because half of this thread so far has been whining about the 9 DVD's, then people might know by now. It's kind of like Star Wars only being the Special Editions. Anyways - anybody seen any reviews yet for FOTR? (Or the whole set really, but that's the one I'm curious about). |
