I never really realized it before until I just watched the theatrical edition this past weekend. It's just an excessive scene that doesn't belong.

IMO the extended editions don't just "cram in a bunch of deleted scenes". Whilst there are some unnessesary added bits, a majority of the additions help with character development and fill in questionable plot holes. I like knowing why Frodo lives with Bilbo and what happened to his parents; I like the gift giving scene in Lothlorien because see important items being given to our characters which are of importance later (e.g. Sam's elvin rope); Faramir and Boromir's backstory is incredible, very informative, and one of the best scenes in the whole series. I could go on and on but I honestly see these extended cuts as "more complete" versions of the films as opposed to something like X-men 1.5 where a bunch of deleted scenes are literally squeezed into the film without flow or proper soundtrack.

I'm currently reading the books for the first time ever, as well. Loving every minute of it. Painstaking well-written. He created a culture, rich with history. Though I LOVE the films, but these books are just incredible.
We have a group here that is currently reading LOTR.

Apart from the Rivendell shot the details on most of the screencaps seem lacking. I expected something along the lines of the Bond remasters.

The EE shots either look washed out in color or look darker.

Out of the seven shots we've seen (I think it's seven), only two look very improved to me. But I don't expect FOTR to look amazing on Blu; it's not that kind of movie.

I hope these are fake. Some of the EE shots look more detailed, and some are blurry as hell, and pretty much all of them are a sickly green.

Yep, not only is that color in EVERY freaking new film released today, they also manage to work it into the old ones that never even had it in the first place!

Tthey are captures from a 1080p rip. Not the blu-ray.
WB never said they were doing some kind of complete 4K overhaul, they said they are going back to the original digital files, so it will probably look close to Two Towers.

It seems like they have used color correction and little sharpening

How about. Once you get the bluray it will look different on your t.v than the computer.

If it's been adjusted for a PC color space (RGB? not sure) it will look the same as it would on your TV.

I’m wondering at what point in the Fellowship movie does Neo inform the orcs that he knows kung-fu

Some sort of LOTR/The Matrix mash up is one explanation for the excessive green/ teal filtering.

The problem is...they have been doing this for quite awhile for a few of the older movies also-
'Blade Runner-Final Cut', 'A L I E N' and most of all 'A L I E N S'.

Give it a few more years and all films will have this color in them.

I bet the Star Wars BDs will have it also.

You don’t mess with Gandalf’s beard and turn him into Papa Smurf
