That's an excellent idea. In the end, however, it will determine whether or not I'll wait some more or shell out $80.

ha ha there is more complaining here by these screenshots then over at avsforum

I guess they also see that the PQ is a GREAT improvement over the theatrical release. These screenshots scream reference quality in detail. Yet some here still complain

The colors in these shots look way closer to what I saw in the theaters (trust me I saw FOTR enough times to remember it well enough)

I thought that was hilarious too

Right
While I'd love to agree, it's been almost a decade. I'd be surprised if PJ remembered what his film looked like theatrically now.

That's overstating things. The detail looks okay, improved over the original, but pretty middling compared to something like the Gladiator or Minority Report remasters. It's probably not a movie that will ever look reference quality until someone spends a ton of money and work on it, since there are so many VFX shots.

Does anyone think that this might be fake, or just processed?

I found this, where a guy fixed it in five seconds, supposedly. Check out the color of the sky above Gandalf's hat, and the detail in his robe right under his beard.

The original:

Fixed:

There are more "fixed" ones here:

what he fix does not appealing for me, he just brighten the image most of it + the color tones look un-natural.

For me, this EE tones is nice and it will look even nicer in BD actual quality.

I think most of these new screenshots look great, if we were talking about 'The Matrix'.

I prefer the color as Peter Jackson intended it. Did he have a hand in this EE release at all or is someone else messing with the colors?

I'm sure you are right. the movies at the theater usually do look darker.

I'm sure hes seen it. He recorded a commentary, and he had to decide what extra scenes to put in.

In the original color timing of Bree Jackson and Crew ramped up the green to give it a grittier grungy feeling. Add on top of that the added green of the new set and you get the really green color people are complaining about. Bree will suffer more than any other part of the film probably from this regrading they have done. Shots in Bree aren't going to be a good indication of the whole movie. The way it is looking its going to be hit or miss. A combination of the new grading with the old grading would probably be the most ideal.

This reminds me of a forum discussion about the green colour in "The Pillars of the Earth". >>>

This kind of stuff is just a waste of time. Fans making up their minds as to what they think the movie is should look like. This kind of mindset is getting out of control.

Some people just have way too much time on their hands. If this is the way Jackson(I'm sure he's seen all three films) wants HIS film to look then who the hell are we to disagree?

Yes indeed. But right now we don't know yet so all this speculation is pointless.
