I don't understand the people on here telling everyone to shut up about this. The only reason that this forum exists, is to discuss The Lord of the Rings extended edition blu-ray. I am a very easy going person, and I'm not all that overly picky about most things, but I love these movies, as I'm sure most of you do too.

I think the detail in most of the screenshots is better than I ever expected, but the green tint is something I've never seen in these movies before, and it bothers me. Snow and clouds should be white, not green, I would think.

I didn't come in here armed for attack, and looking for something to complain about, I pretty much blindly assumed that this transfer would be awesome. If the green tint doesn't bother you, then that's great! I really wish it didn't bother me, but it does. All of you do actually see it though, don't you? I also realize that all of the complaining and moaning isn't going to change the transfers, but I do have an opinion of them.

Does anyone really know who posted these screenshots, and how true to the source they really are? I don't think so, and I really hope that the blu-rays are going to make us all very, very happy.

They may not be perfect, but I'm certainly not going to take screenshots on the internet as reference for whether I will like it or not. I'm still going to buy these day 1, and I'm going to enjoy the $hit out of them every time I watch them...
Why don't we all wait and see the review on this site before anyone soils themselves?

Sorry, I didn't mean to go off and start saying inaccurate stuff, I just wanted to make sure whoever said that these were new scans realizes that they are NOT... PJ made some changes and alterations to the picture when he added is Visual Effects, so there are some things that will never look better than they do. And to rescan everything means WB would have to spend a TON of money on recreating all of the visual effects in the movie.

I guess thats what I was interpreting as a "new master" was rescanning everything into a new digital file, and by saying they used the "original master" I meant the original digital files. So a lot of the color correcting that PJ did on this film in post production will be absent here. We will get an updated release once The Hobbit is finished, and he has time to work on these films. PJ said he has a bunch of other material that he wants to include in the release, but with The Hobbit, he does not have time now.

I think people tell others to be quiet because, first of all, the Blu-rays haven't even been released, or any reviews has been published. The guy who posted the shots supposedly found a Blu-ray rip, but who's to say the colors are accurate to what's on the disc? Second, the whole conjecture that it's either not a new master/a new master without PJ's approval/a conspiracy theory is just pointless.

Also, we've seen this type of nonsense where the screenshots turned out to be wrong several times. So let's just wait for reviews to be released, and then everyone can throw hyperbole at everything, if they want. Preferably not, obviously, but some people can't be helped.

And that's really the crux of the matter for you isn't it? Nevermind that the shots we are seeing have an ugly green pall cast over the entire image. Just be happy with what you get and post as many as we can.

It must be a private rip job, because all of my sources don't turn up a Blu-ray rip of the EE.

Go back and read the posts. It isn't the detail they are complaining about.

Good advice, we'll just have to wait and see. I plan on enjoying this release, as it is something for which I have waited a long time. Regarding the screenshots, I am pleased by the extra detail, but I would be lying if I said the heavy green tint was not a distraction. I can't imagine that Jackson would be happy looking at green snow either - unless he is Irish - but it is what it is. We'll just have to live with it.

Oh dear...yes there is some green tint definitely. It has been said before multiple times. Let's just wait and see how it'll turn out okay? No need to complain about it on every single post. Where are all the slipcover nuts when they're needed?

If these screenshots are based on rips on the internet, then I am going out on a limb and predicting that they will not be representative of what we will get on the 28th.

Someone I met several months ago did a Blu-ray rip. I asked for a copy because I wanted to see how well it turned out. It was a rip of the Inception BD. I compared it to my BD copy of Inception and it was definitely inferior.

The rip is on the net already, your sources not up to date enough yet

well a lot of times that is true but i guarantee you that this 1080p rip that is "in the wild" is very accurare and true to the souce and so represents the final product. what you have been seeing in the screenshots is what you're gonna get!

It's not a scene release, therefore it's meaningless to me and inferior. The bit rate for one I found at 720p is at a measly 2000kbps and the file size is 4gb. The 1080p rip will probably look even worse.

It would be inferior of course, since you're heavily compressing an already heavily compressed source, but it'd be hard to accidentally introduce a color shift like this. I suppose it's possible if their video card drivers are applying some kind of screwy color correction, but pretty unlikely.

the release i have is a p2p release, which is miles ahead of the scene quality. Well wait until the 28 and you'll see for yourself.

I never said I was going to soil myself, I just said that I would enjoy the $hit out of this release as it is. Whether its got a color issue or not, I don't care. I'm going to buy it regardless because it looks a hell of a lot better than my EE DVD's. I'm pretty anxious to retire those badboys to bookends.

And one of these days, good ol PJ will have the time to redo these right, so they look absolutely pristine. But until then, which is a couple years away, I'm going to really enjoy the set I buy in a couple weeks.
