Blind bought and watched this...wow. My new #1 favorite disc. While I wouldn't want every movie or even most movies at 60fps, this was incredible.
Yes, the story is pretty generic and standard action fare but it's very well done, exciting, good stunt work and fairly well paced. The visuals though are absolutely stunning. From the 60fps, to the cinematography, to the gorgeous and best use of HDR I've seen yet, this has demo disc written all over it. The sound is equally impressive and immersive. The CG Will Smith still has quite a bit of uncanny valley to it but sometimes it's completely believable. It's a shame that people don't seem to go for action stars anymore these days. It seems like movies from Will Smith, Arnold and to a lesser extent, Stallone, all either flop or just don't do well anymore. If this was released in the 80s or 90s, I think it would be considered an all time classic if purely for the action and plot. It fees like a 90s movie and gave me Terminator 2 vibes at times. Either way, if you want to showcase what 4K is capable of, you can't go wrong with this disc. |

I am the biggest fan of MEW and I have to hand it to Ang Lee, he was the only person in the world who could make her look average and schlubby.
One of my best looking 4k Blu-Rays and she looks she actually does work on a dock. |

Back on topic, does anyone know the specs for the disc? I'm sure the math in my head is wrong but how are they able to fit 60fps/4K on a single 100GB disc? Especially looking the way it looks. |

As for 'looking the way it looks', again, when you have nice clean sharp images without a lot of grain/noise then that's much easier for said compression codecs to handle rather than the outrageous randomness of film grain, it's why Bohemian Rhapsody and The Relevant can get away with an average bitrate of ~35 Mb/s on UHD and look stellar while giving film-based content the same makes them fall apart e.g. Apollo 13, ID4. |

Finally jumped on the bandwagon! Looks amazing realistic. My only caveat is my set up it outputting 1080p60 DV instead of 4K. I have a Panny U820 and Sony X90CH. My cable is a HDMI 2.0, so it should pass it, I think. Any ideas how to force it, if possible?

Try setting the UB820 to YCbCr 4:2:2 (as opposed to 4:4:4) if you haven't yet. Many TVs with HDMI 2.0 ports do not accept 4:4:4 at 60 Hz.

Some TVs will only accept a 60p DV signal at 1080p because they don't have the processing power to decode 4K60 DV, like the 2016 LG OLEDs, but it'd be weird if a much later set like this Sony couldn't do it. @ ryebren Do you have anything else between the player and TV? AVR, soundbar, something like that? If not, check the specific 4K60 setting in the player, make sure it's on 4:4:4. |

Maybe your Yammy doesn't pass thru full-fat 18Gb/s HDMI 2.0? I aks because 4K24 @ 8-bit 4:4:4 and 12-bit 4:2:2 are both capable of being passed by 10Gb/s chips (hell, 4K24 12-bit 4:2:2 is even supported by HDMI 1.4) but 4:4:4 in 10-bit or 12-bit is a no-no.

![]() If you turn off DV then the player will output the bestest signal that it thinks the TV's bandwidth can receive, in this case being 4K60 but in converted SDR 709 @ 8-bit 4:2:0, e.g. ![]() (Whereas the OPPO can still output 4K60 HDR 2020 @ 8-bit 4:2:0, e.g. ![]() |
