I really loved that youtube clip, i think this looks awesome in 60fps. Such a fun, novel way of experiencing a movie.

*shrug* movies are 24fps. thats what makes them movies. HFR takes away the film like quality of that and it may look 'cleaner' or 'smoother'. but it sure don't look like a film, and thats what I enjoy to watch, films. HFR has its place in live action sports or nature documentaries and gaming, just has no place being in cinema.

Early on, there were films shot at lower frame rates before they settled on 24fps as being most pleasing to audiences. You can go back and look at films shot on 16fps and it looks jerky. In fact, the earliest films have variable frame rates because the cameras were hand cranked, and it was difficult for camera operators to crank the camera (i.e. move the film through the gate) at consistent speeds. That's why some silent film shorts look herky-jerky.
I do agree that the reason people don't like 60fps is because they aren't used to it. But it's also the case that the reason 24fps became the accepted standard is because that's what was found to be most pleasurable. Watching these high-frame rate films compared to regular 24fps cinema is like comparing the Twilight Zone episodes shot on film to those that were shot on videotape during the series's second season. They achieve different effects. IMO, 24fps is more like cinema, whereas as 60fps is more like a theatrical stage play. I like both and can accept both and think both can coexist, because they each create different experiences. As always, it's up to the filmmakers to choose the form that best expresses the content of the story they're telling. Whether GEMINI MAN or those videotaped Twilight Zone episodes do that, well, that's up to you to determine. |

That said, I love the HFR in Gemini Man. It took me a solid 30 minutes to get used to in thetheater, but now I wish all big action movies were done in 120fps - it looks great and is just so damn clear. And this is coming from a film purist - I love grain, I love great transfers of old movies, I would never want to see an old movie interpolated to a higher framerate; I just love the idea of new movies using the tech. 24fps was chosen because film is expensive, and 24fps was the lowest framerate that was comfortable to watch. |

In my opinion HFR can only raise the standards of quality of production and actors performances

One thing that I noticed and think it’s their intention and made me uncomfortable was whenever there’re 2 characters talked to each other, both of characters many times would look straight to the camera, liked they’re taking to us, it was just really weird...
