I don't know what page it was on now, but somebody mentioned the LG OLEDS being able to support the 60 FPS? I have a B7 Oled, my LG 4K bluray is fed through a Onkyo 575 that "should" be able to support.
I'm wondering if my OLED will be able to handle this. |

It absolutely should. Not sure if the Onkyo passthrough will cause an issue but your TV shouldn't have a problem with HFR.

2016 OLED, yours is a 2017 so should be fine. But yeah, as Brad alluded to it's worth people checking everything in their signal chain if they run into problems with DV60.

I have my 4K player going through my Q70R soundbar HMDI ARC. I’ve never had an issue at all before with other 4K movies. I went ahead and did an exchange at Best Buy. Hopefully it’s just the disc. Wish me luck lol

Update: the exchanged disc is still having audio cut out for half a second but not as frequent as the 1st copy did. I’m wondering if this is a Bumblebee 4K disc situation all over again, with this being Paramount and all.

I haven't had any audio glitches, but something in my setup is misbehaving slightly. Patches of color glitch out periodically; not the whole frame but just small chunks of it. It’s usually not repeatable. Weirdly, I can even pause the disc at a moment when the colors look fine, and the still image will glitch every once in a while.
So, beats me. I have an LG OLED65B7P, a Philips BDP7502 player, and a Marantz SR6012 AVR. I'm not seeing these issues on the Xbox One X, but then again, it doesn't support Dolby Vision for UHD discs. I guess I could potentially eliminate one of the possibilities by running my player directly to the TV and seeing if this still happens, but I'm kind of lazy. ![]() I ran the player straight into the TV (using a different port) two different ways: first with the HDMI cable I previously had from player->AVR, and a second time with a different HDMI cable. Ran into this issue in both instances. So I know the AVR isn't to blame. However, I've watched a good bit of 4K/60fps/Dolby Vision content via the Dolby Access app on my TV and never experienced this before, so I'm skeptical it's the display. Assuming I'm right, that leaves the player. I have 3 UHD BD players here, but only one is Dolby Vision-capable, so I don't have a way to quickly verify. I could borrow my in-laws' UHD BD player (which is Dolby Vision-friendly) the next time I'm feeling squirrelly. I'd say this is one more reason to replace my current player with a Panasonic 820, but I hope to never suffer through Gemini Man or any other HFR movie again, so I'm not sure how much of a selling point that is. ![]() Last edited by sonicyogurt; 01-14-2020 at 10:22 PM. |

I got about an hour into this and turned it off.
Not because I thought it was terrible--but because I was actually thoroughly enjoying the film despite thinking I wouldn't, and I decided I will restart it from the beginning later tonight to experience it in its entirety. Wife and kid were distracting me from being able to really focus on it, so I threw in 'The Jungle Book' instead (immediately going from 60fps to 24fps is really jarring). So, I don't know where I stand with HFR. I don't think I really have a preference one way or the other. It didn't bother me with 'Billy Lynn' (just thought that was such a boring film)--and it certainly doesn't bother me here with 'Gemini Man'. I would never be in the business of trying to convert people. Especially since I know the majority of film fans outright hate the medium of HFR itself. You know, looks cheap, looks fake, breaks immersion, looks like a soap opera, etc, etc. Maybe it's because I've been predisposed to video game cutscenes at 60fps or higher pretty much my entire life through gaming. Or maybe it's because I actively work in so many visual mediums, that I've become adjusted to all the different visual languages one could employ through their artistic expressions. But for me, I not only wasn't bothered by what I saw with the HFR in 'Gemini Man', but for the most part, I thought it looked good to sometimes extraordinarily great (that bike chase sequence looks even better on disc, on a decently sized panel). Dion Beebe's photography in this film, regardless of what the framerate is, looks pretty damn great. Love the color and lighting, love the compositions and angles, and love the fluidity of the direction of the camerawork. I was neither bothered by the usage of HFR in still/slow scenes, or in faster-paced/action scenes. I just feel that photographically, it's a very good movie to look at. What I can say is, based on that first hour, this UHD has immaculate compression. Exceptionally smooth color, terrific dynamic range, razor sharp detail both from the DI as well as the HFR, as well as just being an all around gorgeously refined UHD presentation. If this holds for the last hour, this would definitely be my personal pick for the best UHD on the format. Some will chalk that up to a superficial metric in motion resolutions--but the thing is, it's part of the creative intent of the film; So it's valid. There's barely any camera noise, and what little there is, is so easily resolvable that no fine detail is obscured. Regardless of the perception of HFR, Paramount at least does Ang Lee's vision justice with this disc. I don't know if I will ever fall in love with HFR. I don't even know if it's something I would want to experiment with. But I appreciate its existence, and the usage of it on this film. I will always commend artists for taking creative leaps that many deem questionable, mainly because there's a certain admiration to be had in progressive cinematography. Really looking forward to finishing this later tonight. Last edited by TheSweetieMan; 01-14-2020 at 10:31 PM. |
