Yes I got one of those too, I like the picture it projects when playing 4k hdr, but I still wouldn't call it a 4K HDR projector. If I really want to demo a 4K HDR movie I'll always use my 4K 4K OLED TV

So if someone was just using a PJ to assess HDR then I'd still be wary, but with advances like the HDR Optimiser on Panasonic players, JVC's special sauce DTM and even those clever people who force Dolby Vision low latency into their PJs - where the player does all the dynamic tone mapping upstream - then HDR projektion is coming of age at last. If you feel that your PJ doesn't measure up then, well, I can't do anything about that. |

After reading this post of yours, I ordered a new HDMI cable, and it just got here a few minutes ago. With this cable in place, I tried plugging the player directly into the TV and, afterwards, routing it through my AVR as usual. I'm not seeing that sporadic color distortion at all now with Dolby Vision enabled. Admittedly, I haven't rewatched the entire movie or anything ![]() So, even though I tried two different HDMI cables before, clearly they were both inadequate. I know almost nothing about 3D, but probably. Like 80% of the movie seems like it was shot for angles, depth and layers in a crazy way. 24p might lose all the extreme clarity but could equalize the "feel" of the movie as it changes from drama to action.

the clarity and sharpness are so tactile at times, the moment when Henry is crouching by the car at the beginning of the action scene in Columbia - the car next to him makes you want into the screen and touch it.
