Default Netflix's "Maniac" (Season 1)

Emma Stone & Jonah Hill To Star & Cary Fukunaga To Direct ‘Maniac’ Dark Comedy Series For Paramount TV & Anonymous

Quote:
Emma Stone and Jonah Hill are finalizing deals to star and Cary Fukunaga to direct Maniac, a blockbuster half-hour series package from Paramount TV and Anonymous Content, sources say.

The dark comedy i2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards - Arrivalss based on the 2014 Norwegian series about a guy who lives a fantasy life in his dreams but in reality is locked up at an institution. I hear the project will be seeking a straight-to-series order, possibly for two seasons, with Fukunaga likely directing all episodes. Search is underway for a writer.

Cary Fukunaga’s ‘Maniac’ Gets Straight-to-Series Order from Netflix

Quote:
Last week, we reported on Maniac, an upcoming TV series directed by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) and starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone. The trifecta of Fukunaga (who would helm all ten episodes), Hilll, and Stone was exciting enough, but it also has a great hook: Hill plays a man in a mental institution who escapes to a fantasy world where he’s the hero and everything’s great (Stone plays a fellow patient).

With this talented group and an intriguing plot (which is based off a 2014 Norwegian series), perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that Paramount TV and Anonymous Content have managed to sell it in such a short time. And the victor should also come as no surprise: Netflix.

According to Deadline, the streaming service is finalizing a deal to a straight-to-series 10-episode order with Fukunaga likely directing all episodes.

Now the question becomes when we’ll actually get to see this. The search is currently under way for a writer, and the principles involved each have other projects. Fukunaga is working on the TNT drama series The Alienist starring Garrett Hedlund, Stone is starring in the Billie Jean King biopic Battle of the Sexes, and we’ll have to see how quickly the Men in Black/Jump Street crossover comes together for Hill. This sounds like a project we won’t be seeing until late 2017 at the earliest, but at least it’s found a good home with Netflix.

First two episodes were good... mostly intriguing set-up so far but some very strong moments and Fukunaga is obviously in total control.

Not sure if I want to binge it or spread it out with maybe two episodes per day...

So far i have seen the set up episodes 1 & 2, it has pulled me in. Interested in seeing where this goes and I love that it looks as if it was filmed in the 70's/80's.

I also love me some Emma Stone(altho i could do without her smoking ).

This ended up being pretty crappy tbh. Rotated between nonsensical and painfully boring. Should have been condensed into a 2 hour movie.

Just saw the pilot. Definetely not my cup of tea.
On the other hand, Emma Stone is definetely my cup of tea, so maybe will try to go on.

Emma Stone is probably the only reason this show wasn't a total waste of time for me. She was great throughout.

Yeah, pretty much agree with this. I wouldn't go as far as to call it crappy, but it definitely didn't warrant 10 episodes. Fukunaga's first less-than-stellar offering.
