The Dark Knight was great. Superman was great. That's about it so far. There will be much more on the DC front. They are turning the ship around. But Marvel Studios so far has made two movies. Both were outstanding. Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. They also have a great plan.

All of DC's movies are made by their parent company WB. I don't think DC has had a lot of input in their past movies. From what I've read that's going to change.

As far as the characters go. Marvel might have the edge because they can use the excuse of 'mutants' for any super being they don't have yet. There's an equal on both sides. If DC has a great hero, Marvel will have one very similar. If Marvel has a great one, DC will come up with one similar (For every Green Arrow, there's a Hawkeye). This may not be quite so with the principles as it is for the B listers. Marvel probably has more A listers known by John Q Public than DC. But DC's characters are more Iconic.
We'll see if DC actually gets more say. And if anything really changes. Or if they continue to be jerked around by WB so that nothing but movies featuring Batman and Superman get made. Look at Wonder Woman, things were kicking fine and then WB was dragging their feet, ticked off Whedon, and he left. It's gonna keep happening cause WB gets first pass on any DC movie. And they're not going to pass, they'd rather see the film die.

Having more Iconic characters actually works against them. If you think about it. They're less free to really play with the characters because they're not allowed to grow beyond the little box that they're placed in. Superman changes very little, and any attempt to change is met with a royal freakout from the fanbase. Hell, look at Captan America. They killed him and now have Bucky/Winter Soldier as the new Captain America.

We'll have to wait and see. I know that they have some pretty good Ideas coming up (SuperMax). And Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were really good. Personally I thought both Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk were better comic book movies.

You need to chill a bit. None of those movies were made by Marvel. They were made by studios who bought the rights to the characters. Marvel has made two movies. Two.

Plus on the whole DC makes better movies
Good DC movies: Superman and Superman 2, Batman Begins and the Dark Knight (the best super hero movie ever)

Bad DC movies: Batman and Robin, Superman III, IV

Good Marvel Spiderman 2, X Men, X2
Bad Marvel: Fantastic 4 both, and The Punisher.

Over all the winner is: DC
DC does not make better movies. They barely even can get movies off the ground. Superman Retreads was horrible and almost killed the possibility of a follow-up Superman film. Seems you left a lot of titles off your list.

What about Blade, the movie that rekindled the Superhero Franchise?
Where's Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2? Hell, even Spider-Man 3 wasn't awful.
You even left Iron Man and Incredible Hulk off your list. Biased much?

I for one enjoyed both of the Fantastic Four movies a hell of a lot more than Batman Begins or Superman Retreads. Batman Begins was slow and boring, give me Burton's rich Batman anyday.

The Roger Corman FF movie was only made because Corman's studios threw it together in order to try to extend their licensing of the characters. It was never meant to be released in any way, shape, or form.

Howard the Duck is still a huge cult classic. Why do you think you see people asking for it to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray all the time. Hell, I used to watch my warn out VHS all the time years ago.

Sentry would have just thrown Doomsday into the Sun.

Something the boyscout wouldn't do.

Then there's folks like Dr. Strange, Scarlet Witch, Magneto, Phoenix. So no...

The Dark Knight cut the gap. But one awesome movie isn't enough to top a handful of great movies.

DC obviously, though I do like certain Marvel stuff. I think a lot of people gravitate toward Marvel because they've always done edgier characters like the Punisher and Wolverine. I think Marvel made way too many X-Men and mutant spin-offs which diluted the brand. Fans have also forgiven Marvel too easily for making way too many major mistakes like the Spider-man clone saga.

Marvel doesn't have a handful of great movies. They have like 2 (X2 and Iron Man). DC has at least 3 by my count: Superman, Batman Begins, and TDK. Marvel has a far stronger stable of characters overall, but Batman kicks the crap out of every comic book character IMHO so that gives DC the edge even though I can't stand Superman and they really don't have any other great characters.

Marvel has more than a handful of great movies.

I don't think Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are all that and a bag of chips either.

Give me Batman and Batman Returns over both of those. Hell, give me Batman: The Movie.

I disagree. Iron Man, X2, X-men, Spidey, Spidey 2, Blade 2.

From DC I consider Superman, Superman 2, Batman, and Batman Begins as great movies.

The Dark Knight is the best though.

Typical. By the way, you like those penguins with rocket launchers? You'd think that came out of Batman & Robin...oops, it's in Batman Returns. Oh wait, let me guess. You like Batman & Robin just as much as Batman: The Movie, right?
