...What the hell is wrong with this forum...seriously. Overreact much?

Maybe the topic at hand and where I was coming from wasn't clear, but I think horror was pretty weak on a worldwide scale in the 90's. The level of quality output in the 2000's, (you know, the decade directly after the 1990's), increased big time especially non-American horror.

Lol, I haven't seen every horror movie, but believe me, I don't need to be schooled on how there has always been great horror outside the US.

It's quite akin to the Johnny Cash video that was made for Ain't No Grave. Lots of different folks collaborating with a lot of wildly different animation styles. It's really interesting to see how many different interpitations are out there for this film.

Wow second time in a row I've missed a Blu I've been looking for. Both this and Fright Night were my childhood favorites. I just let a friend brorrow Night of the Living Dead last week. I guess gotta wait 3 years or more to ever get another crack at them.

My card was re-authorized for the full amount a few days ago so I assume they may have got the titles in around that time and they should be shipping soon. Can't wait for this release.

Lord, I hope so. I'm past fed up with listening to Carol, and listening to others console Carol.

Where is the original NOTLD!? What about Zombi, City of the Living Dead, The Beyond!? Living Dead at Manchester Morgue? Shaun of the Dead? I could go on and on.

To each their own but I thought Resident Evil was pretty terrible and is barely a horror film. It is what Van Helsing was to the classic monster films, with lots of bad CGI and Matrix style kung fun for some odd reason.

anybody have any guesses on how good the transfer will be? I am trying to temper my expectations but am worried that it may not be a big leap from teh DVD. Here's why I say that. Lets take Halloween 3 for example. You could tell from the earlier DVD's that it had really good potential to look great on Blu-ray and it does look great. But when I watch scenes of NOTLD on my DVD, it looks like the source material is cheap 90's film stock and may not even have a chance to look great in Hi def.

Anyone have any insight?

I could be mistaken, but the U.S. DVD includes a transfer originally prepared for laserdisc that's nearly 20 years old. Gotta imagine the blu-ray will blow it out of the water...

The 1981 slasher flick Madman, for example, features some of arguably the ugliest-looking actors ever assembled for a film. It makes it easier to relate to the characters if they look like your avarage everyday next-door neighbor.
Like Halloween: curse where they recast Danielle Harris after making her screentest because she wanted $5000 for the role? best for the part? Those films hired people because they were cheaper. Nowadays you can get "pretty cw" actors because the talent pool is so large an still pay cheaply. That why its different now. There was also a stigma in decades past about horror films. So A and B level talent wasn't always an option. It wasn't about casting so much as for monetary reasons.

People in this thread have said they have seen the HD version of the film on Encore and say it looks pretty good.

I've rewatched it twice in anticipation of the Blu-ray release. Once with the commentary. I think the commentary by Tom Savini is great. He gives tons of insights in to the film at all points in the movie making process. Interestingly he wasn't involved in the post producition. Perhaps this is where he and George stopped talking to each other?

And as far as the transfer used for the DVD, it's clear that there's tons of room for improvement. Twilight Time has a good track record with Sony/Columbia because they are creating new HD transfers for their films and these are the ones that are being released in these limited editions.
