Not to mention that the Blu-ray was so one note color wise that the optical "diary text" that appears when Keanu Reeves is wandering the castle, is now completely invisible. |

The coloring present on the Blu for BSD was never representative of any previous release though. Not VHS or Laserdisc, so how did the Blu-ray restore a color error from DVD when no other release looks anything like the Blu-ray?

I read it here and there but it was so far back I can't source it. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to have come via statements from Coppola's film company. It may have been incorrect though.. Sorry, I should of said all home video releases (that is what they were arguing). Again, it may have been misinformation. |

You will notice it. To what degree will vary. I have a display that is ISF calibrated by LionAV. It doesn't look bad and detail is there in spades. I just don't feel the color changes/darkening are correct. Also, the screen caps I've seen are not a good representation of what I see on my display. The ones posted here are extreme cases to be sure.

(Besides, according to several posters the first five minutes don't have an obvious blue push... I wonder how long the opening credits last? ![]() I have neither the time nor the energy to repeat myself on BSD... short version is the transfer's a modern looking mess, and while the previous HD master and subsequent DVDs made from it likely wasn't perfect, I'm convinced that the version without crushed blacks, green torches, and scene-specific, clearly digital desaturation is how the film looked when it was released twenty years ago. Does an Answer Print with funky color timing exist? Maybe, but without anyone ever having seen it before or FFC ever having mentioned that he was unhappy with the multitude of previous home video masters made over the years, I have my doubts... |

Okay, I gotcha now. Yes the screens are closer and I believe still a bit extreme in regard to what I'm seeing on the disc on my display.

Wow! You go away for a day and a freakin' war breaks out, it got extremely intense in here. After I ripped it to my computer I put it in my PS3 and was switching back and forth between it and the DVD and noticed the difference in the brightness but didn't think it would turn into this.
