It's blue alright, and about as subtle as Buddy Cole at a Rip Taylor roast. Rather than a frame-by-frame gradual 'blue-ing,' it looks pretty amateurishly done to me (I got the same Duracell effect on a picture of a redheaded friend using one of the cheapo photo apps on my iPhone.)

I don't think it's unwatchable, but it's certainly not unnoticeable.

The only reason it would look any different to you on this forum vs. watching your disc is because your computer monitor is calibrated differently than your TV's Blu-ray input. If you have a computer hooked up to your TV (as I do) and have calibrated your TV's computer input as close as possible to its Blu-ray input, you could make his frame grab full screen and there would be absolutely no difference. What you are wrong about is suggesting that his frame grabs are somehow not 100% accurately representative of the contents of the disc, and suggesting that the only way a person could see what this transfer will look like on their TV is to view the disc.

You are not wrong, however, that if you view his frame grabs on a PC monitor which has not been properly calibrated like your TV hopefully has, they most likely will look completely different from how they look on your TV. And to make matters worse, if you are just viewing the thumbnails with the bright background colors of this forum all around them, your brain will prevent you via optical illusion from seeing some of the detail and they will look darker. If you click on his thumbnail, then click the larger picture again to make it actual size, then make it fill your screen (go full-screen in your browser, zoom in/out as needed per your resolution) you'll be closer, but your screen calibration will still make it look different.

I look at them on my crappy laptop screen, they look extremely dark, you can't even see the grill on the truck. I look at them on my HTPC hooked directly up to the TV with HDMI, but NOT maximized, just within this thread, I still can barely see the grill on the truck. I fully maximize them, and now I can magically see the grill of the truck and all kinds of other detail -- exactly as my disc would look if I popped it in. But still too dark.

I get what you're saying but the problem is, how many people do you think have a perfectly calibrated computer screen? Most people on this forum are seeing it the way we are (extremely dark... To the point where you can't even make anything out in the scene). So they are actually misleading a lot of people.

I'm actually using my iPad at the moment though

Mine is calibrated so it would stand to reason that other people's monitors are not 1080p or higher and/or not calibrated properly.

Let's make this easy.

If you are viewing the Blu-Ray on your TV or projector you need to also view the screenshots on your TV or projector. Otherwise, they will almost certainly not look the same. Computer monitors are generally calibrated for computer graphics, not movies.

If you are viewing the Blu-Ray on your PC, and the screenshots were taken directly from the disc, the image should match.

I'm not doubting that yours is calibrated.... And the caps are exactly representative of the disc. But if most people's computers are not calibrated (like mine apparently), they are going to get a picture that is different from what they will see on their television.... So it's still misleading to a big group of members on here.

Which is why I say you have to see the transfer for yourself sometimes.

Well that's not the fault of the screencaps then. If that's the case then the user's display is inaccurate and it doesn't make the caps bad.

I know. I'm just trying to point out to the people who have not seen the transfer and are judging solely on the screencaps that it might not look like that on their television screen.

If I'm looking at a screencap and it looks different on my television screen, it's still misleading. Regardless.... If I hadn't seen the transfer already and was judging just on the screencaps, I would think the transfer is darker than it actually is.

But yes, it is very dark anyway you slice it. Just not AS dark as many people are seeing from the screencaps.

My laptop & phone are certainly not calibrated at all, and most peoples' probably aren't. My HTPC/TV connection, however, is, since I use Windows Media Center as my DVR. So I can view frame grabs on there whenever I want to see what they will look like in real life. If people are really curious and aren't set up like that, another thing they could probably do is either put the images on a thumb drive/SD card and view them with their Blu-ray player (if it supports it), or their Blu-ray player may even have a rudimentary web browser that could get them there. **As long as the player lets them make it full screen to avoid the optical effects of bright background borders.

But really, this video is so ridiculously dark at times that you can pretty much conclude so no matter how your display is calibrated.
