Better to pay £8 up front and get DHL to deliver it I always get shafted with Amazon.com, but my last 4 orders from Amazon.ca (Canada) of the same discs, were a couple of £ more expensive, and arrived in two days via DHL as standard. Amazing.

Thats ok I got you beat , years back I was making a trade for a DVD copy of Blade 2. I am in Canada the other guy in the UK. anyways I could have got this movie brand new for 35 bucks and Canada Customs charged me 27 dollars in duty for a used movie i could have just dropped the extra cash for and gotten new.

Not only was I out a movie of my own but also had to pay for shipping the movie to the guy plus paying excessive duty charges for a used movie.

Since the director says he likes the BD, does it automatically mean it's a good transfer? Sometime even the director's approval is not good enough because the difference is way too drastic. Further explanation would help dissipate the criticism.

What about William Friedkin and The French Connection? Didn't that title got a re-release because people were not happy with the colour-timing? At some point, we ought to also put into question the director's reasoning.

Thumbs up

I watched mine on a nicely calibrated Panny 42 inch ST30 and I was pleased with what I saw. I never had trouble seeing any details even in the dark scenes. I though it sounded great as well. But yes it's somewhat darker than other films but I didn't have a blue tint. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. thank you TT! :-)

How come the included bluray trailer does not contain the Bluish look?

Because the trailer was advertising the theatrical release. In 1990. Which didn't have this bluish look to it.

Regardless of people liking it or not (or rationalizing that it "sets the mood" better), it wasn't there until this release of 3000 blu-rays. It's a change. For good or ill is in the eye of the beholder I guess.

I personally prefer to go with the way it has been presented for the past 22 years -- with daylight being daylight and such.

With a review like this, there are going to be people on both sides of the fence. There are some people that found the color timing off with the 4.5 rated Indiana Jones (reviewed so highly on here). Some people loved NOTLD90's new look, others did not. I think something this split should be up to the viewer to decide. For those that loved it, congratulations. For those that didn't, you can get a refund, hold on to it for collector's sake, or check out the other options for this release and hope for a remake in 2015. Even though there will be disappointed folks, everyone can get something out of this.

Why would it? No one's pretending it's always looked like this.

Tom had nothing to do with it, don't boo him. Boo whatever schmuck at Sony that decided to do this.

100% agree with the review @ HDD. The transfer belongs on a budget bin disc, not on this release.

Which is why, for the 1,000th time, you CAN'T judge anything from screen caps. Nor should you ever.

The final word (from Twilight Time's Facebook page)

Quote:
UPDATE: As promised, we have discussed NOTLD at the studio and are able to verify via SPE's Mastering Department, that our Blu-ray is indeed the approved transfer from 2010, generated for the film's 20th anniversary, and done in consultation with the film's director of photography. As you will have also seen on this page and elsewhere on the internet, director Tom Savini has now had a chance to view the end product and declared it "fantastic."

As we are aware that some fans of the film will remain disappointed, our offer of a full refund still stands if you wish to return your copy. However, we would caution you with this thought: this is a limited edition run of 3,000 copies, and the title is sold out. Right or wrong, it is a collector's item, and there are no guarantees this title will ever be repressed. Going forward, if TT encounters another situation where the new transfer differs greatly from the old, we will bring that to collectors' attention prior to the disc being offered so that you may know of the changes beforehand. Thanks for all your support.

Best,

Nick Redman and Brian Jamieson.

Which is not the point, the movie still looks bloody awful and why Savini would approve is beyond everyone.

Also I really do not like this "Mr. Redman".

Sorry if I somehow missed this being posted already, but apparently Tom had this to say as well, in response to being shown one of the comparison caps:

"Yeah, I saw that pic...but my copies look terrific. I wonder what's going on. Could there be a bad few and you are lucky to have one?"

So right there he's flat out stating the Blu-ray itself doesn't look like the caps. Not simply that it looks "terrific".

Seriously, anyone who is intending to keep this shrink wrapped so it sells for more or makes it easier to send back, you really might want to give it a look first.

You seem to be taking this personally. Everyone that remotely doesn't have a problem with it, you insult them. You can get a refund, sell your copy, or choose another viewing option. It's not complicated. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you have to belittle anyone that does.

Wow, and they think that polite and courteous response is enough? It's been four days since people complained, how dare they not instantly fix this at great expense? How dare they offer refunds to anyone who wants one?

In all honesty/seriousness, that's a really good response from the gang

That gives me the impression that they were aware of it differing greatly from the old before it was released, but didn't put out a warning about it.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't give some sort of specs/heads up before the release. Maybe they will start doing so from here on out. I still think 3,000 people would've bought it anyways, but it'd be nice to get everyone on the same page.
