I believe everyone here has their fingers crossed that this transfer is indeed an error and not intentional.

Here's 2 screenshots from the HDX (1080P) VUDU preview. Feel free to post a matching shot from the BD for comparison:

If I remember correctly on the commentary Tom Savini said that they had wanted a more stormy look originally but the weather was too bright and sunny. But if he really wanted to correct that, he would only have done it during the daylight scenes and not during the night scenes. And from what people are saying about the quality of the Sony Movie Channel and Vudu presentation and I doubt Sony would do two HD restorations, the most logical conclusion is that someone F'd up.

Yep, for those screen caps I'd say the blu ray looks better. The opening scene is very vivid. It's later on that the problem starts.

Well then good luck to them trying to peddle their limited crap when this word goes out wide and as soon as mine gets here it's going back. I'll stick with my DVD. I'm not paying $34 for this s**t.

thats what im thinking cause ive been wondering, after properly calibrating your display, why would it be necessary to adjust the brightness on one film and not any others?

I'd love to reserve judgment until I've actually seen the transfer, but at the same time I don't want to open it since returns have to be new and unopened. Those screencaps are just too damning to ignore.
If I do return it, then they'd better be paying the return shipping, as well as refunding my original shipping costs. |
