You always have to make adjustments unless you want greyish blacks.

Considering Savini provided commentary for the DVD, I highly doubt that. I'm sure a few on here saw it in theatres too and will likely attest to the fact that the dark screencaps look nothing like what it did back then

I don't suppose you can post some screencaps? Maybe only some of them are deffective and just need to be replaced?

I hope mine looks good.

I thought of this too...but it's a drastic difference...and worse, in my opinion. Much worse.

Having to adjust brightness would be fine. In order to fix this mess you'd have to reduce the blue push in your service menu.

Well, how are you going to see the movie on blu-ray in person, if you don't open it? You have no other choice but to open it! If you're not satisfied with the transfer, you can resell it on Ebay, or Amazon, without a problem.

I have seen this movie in numerous formats. In theaters during it's original theatrical run, on VHS, on Laserdisc, broadcast in HD and on DVD. It's never been blue.

yes this is definitely NOT a calibration issue by any means. you can adjust the brightness, contrast, color, tint or whatever you like and you're still going to end up with a blue mess.

for example, the scene where tony todd kills the zombie outside with the crowbar that he earlier hit with his truck. if you look at the trees above him and to the right you'll see an extremely overexposed blob on the bluray. now look at the dvd and you'll see far more detail. you can see all the branches of the trees and everything.

this bluray release is an awful mess.

It was just an assumption, I wasn't positively sure, which is the reason why I said "maybe". You don't have to keep it, get rid of it.

So is this how the DVD looks as well, or is the color scheme on these screens off as well, it has been forever since I watched this movie and I was waiting until my copy got here.

if these screens are what it is supposed to look like well damn, it looks like I have another fixer up project to do, but at least this will be an easy one and I can even keep the full BD structure as is.

Thanks

***edit, These are 720p screens of the HDTV version***

I like the look of those screens actually, vidjunkie. Some of the other ones I've seen though.... not so much.

Why is everyone calling out my statement? The issue here is how poor the transfer is.

Some movies look really terrible black christmas etc on standard picture mode on your tv but cinema mode makes most of the bright white specs of certain movies go away. but for cabin in the woods and jeepers creepers the cinema mode made the blu-ray discs look too dark and same for NOTLD 90. it looks really bright on standard mode and even more so on vibrant mode tv pic setting. i have a sony blu-ray player and a sony hd tv from 2007.

That's what the DVD looks like, that is NOT what my bluray looks like.

Besides the darkness issue, is it just me or is the overall detail DVD-like in those BD shots? I'm not seeing improved resolution.
