Surely some of this bile should be directed at Sony? I know we can't be sure where this problem originated but TT seem to think it was Sony, so presumably if Sony put this out themselves we'd have the same issue.
So what are TT to do? If both the guys who run it are unfamiliar with the film, and have no reason to think Sony would muck something up like this due to the reputation they have regarding catalogue transfers, it's not fair to assume they would notice the problem during the encoding stage. And if Sony could care so little about this film to not release it themselves, it's entirely possible they'll make no effort to correct it. TT can't correct it themselves, so what level of anger should really be directed at them? I agree they need to address this issue a little more frankly, but they should be given at least a week to do so. |

People do realize the events preceding Barbara entering the house are supposed to occur at dusk? Without going into filming specifics, there is a process called day-for-night shooting. You film the scene in the day with full light, but the final product is intended to be seen by the viewer as a shot taking place in the night. Hollywood has been doing it that way for decades.
It looks to me like the color timing changes got a little too aggressive in properly correcting the day-for-night shots, when they weren't corrected at all for the original DVD transfer. That leads to the massive differences in available light to the image. The Blu-ray would be the more correct transfer if my guess is right, though it does look like it could have been handled smoother by the technician. |

The beginning and final scenes look well enough - It's clear that someone was attempting to emulate the scenes as 'late' and 'early' in the day. This theory can be backed up by the fact that the outdoors get continually darker in the shots that lead up to Barbara finding the house. This is where the film appears to look the worst, as the tint that was utilized to emulate the early evening makes the picture look unnatural. But, it does appear they were going for a 'day to night' transition here. Inside the house is dark, yet, but as you've previously said, shadows are resolved quite well more often than not. Also, if this was a blue tint across the board as some others seem to think, the white text would have been affected... and it isn't. Honestly, I really don't think TT are at fault here. A change was made somewhere down the line... I don't know by WHO, but a change WAS made, and it looks to be very much intentional. I don't know if Savini ever signed off on it or what, but SOMEBODY made these changes intentionally. Once we're inside the house with the lights on at night, things look alright. Certainly a bit darker than what we're used to, but it does look alright. What does bother me by this change, is that it seems to mess with skin tones through and through. I wouldn't exactly say it's a tragedy for me... I enjoyed watching this version of Night of the Living Dead. I had this and have seen it on DVD before, but it's been YEAAARS since I've seen it, so I have nothing in mind to compare this Blu-ray to. I just know that I wasn't AS disappointed as I thought I was going to be by reading this thread. But, I can also see why so many people are upset. |

I don't think Sony, nor Twilight Time is going to invest a lot of money do a complete HD restoration of this film. If that was the case, Sony would've released it themselves.

Yea, that is exactly what I noticed also! The first five minutes looked pretty good, then that dark blue tint was present until exactly the 27:50 mark

Another alteration noticed.... kinda nitpicky.... during the still photo montage at the beginning of the end credits, the camera clicking sounds between each image shown has been removed. Saw this in theater and I have owned every home format release so the audio change definitely jumped out at me.
