I haven't seen this disc yet and I'm not happy with the changes made (that I've seen in pics, mind you) but all the childish insults and people pissing in each other's cornflakes doesn't solve anything. Feel free to chew each other up but it doesn't do any good what-so-ever. What awesome change has happened while those few people were ripping on each other?

I don't know, just seems pointless.

In terms of TT, I do hope a change is made but guess what, we're not going to know anything for at least half a day, until that time no one knows for sure. If Tom says, "I hate it, wasn't what I wanted" but Sony says, "we modified it ourselves", it still won't change anything and we'll have to live with this blue filter.

Am I really disappointed? Yes but I haven't seen the disc yet. Am I a huge fan of the film? Hell yes, one of my favourites and I've seen it a hundred times with the original colours, so this is not my idea of an accurate presentation.

It's a shame and I hope something can be done but by the way it sounds from TT's end, it seems unlikely. I'll keep hope alive though.

The funny posts trying to lighten the mood were great, had a good chuckle.

So this isn't SOLD OUT anymore, is it? If some people do a return, there will be some more left to sell.

I've never had a problem with that transfer. The old DVD looked too bright and garish IMO.

More comments from Twilight Time (pulled from their Facebook page):

Quote:
In the end it won't really matter much whose choice it was...it's done, and that's all there is to it.

you should hang on to it any way, mate. For whatever happens this week, your copy will truly be a collector's item!

Yes, everyone will be notified at the SAE website. Only one of two things will happen this week: 1) Sony confirms this is the correct look for the film in which case the disc won't be repressed; or 2 )Sony confirms an error was made and in which case the disc could be repressed/exchanged. In either event consumers will have the opportunity to return their copy for a refund. But think about it, if what happens is 1) would you really want to return your copy given there is a possibility this will be the only BD release of the title? Something to think about.

Regarding a re-release from Sony themselves:
Quote:
it's possible, but don't bet on it, especially after this weekend's uproar.

They seem to be hoping that fans will embrace the blu-ray as a collector's item, and that people don't actually care about the movie / presentation.

If this is the case, then I pray they keep their hands off any future genre titles.

Yeah, that's true but I'm sure Red Shirt Pictures could whip up a really nice newly drafted documentary with Carpenter and the cast being interviewed now about the experience and what not. Plus, a cool custom artwork cover for "Christine" would look pretty killer on the shelf too.

Yeah, I'm not so sure who else was interested in putting this out. But I bet Anchor Bay in it's prime would've, it's just a shame they've pretty much shut down completely, putting out Evil Dead and Halloween every few years.

Each to their own. Completely ruined the film if you ask me, and was a much bigger debacle than NOTLD.

At least it demonstrates that Sony have a history of making these kind of alterations.

Does SAE deal in second hand merchandise? And even if they do, theres a chance the Sony contract could prevent them from that, which would result in fewer than 3000 copies out there with no chance of re release.

I didn't see them say anything about their hopes. It's pretty clear cut this is an "A or B" type of situation. And if this ends up being the only release of NOTLD '90 it WILL be a collector's item regardless of the picture. Even on this forum with all of the uproar people are still offering to take this movie off of people's hands. There are at least 3,000 people in the world who want this movie on Blu-ray and don't care if the picture is a little blue.

And why would Sony want to release it now if it's just going to bring them grief? This is the company that doesn't like to do catalog releases anymore. I'm sure we're making them glad they're getting out of the catalog business.

"Just for the record, Tom Savini has not been in touch with anyone at Twilight Time, and by and large, most of the screencaps and youtube videos posted are inaccurate comparisons. As most of you know here, Sony only delivers masters for Blu-ray authoring that have passed the most stringent of QC standards. We never receive anything from them that fails the QC. It is clear that when the film was transferred (possibly a couple of years ago or more), a choice was made about darkening the late afternoon transition to dusk and then night. The transition looks perfectly natural, but it may not be how it was presented previously on VHS, laserdisc, DVD, etc. We don't know. We are not privy to the rationale of each individual transfer and do not know whose choices this new transfer represents. A likely assumption is at least one of the filmmakers. Now, we suppose as with everything, there is a possibility an error could have occurred somewhere along the master conversion chain, and that is what we will proceed to clarify tomorrow. But if it turns out that this is the exact master that was signed off on, then all we will be able to do is simply refund anyone's money who wishes to return their copy."

Hmm, makes me think hanging onto it is the best option. If I return it for a refund, I'm not going to get a replacement if that's on the cards. If a replacement's not on the cards - well I don't think another Night BD is coming from the US and that's fine with me.

I preferred the more subdued look and it feels more accurate to what Coppola's intentions were. It has a more timeless quality to it IMO. Either way, it was approved by Zoetrope and I'm sure Coppola signed off on it at some point.

With regards to NOTLD, someone said they saw an original print of the film not too long ago and that it looked like the DVD edition.

Like I stated before I saw this at the midnight movies a few years ago an the film reel used was an original reel from 1990 that theatre had shipped to them. An I'll tell you right now the dvd an the original film reel are the same with a little more grain every now an then on the whats on the dvd but color wise they are identical. The blu ray is altered slightly yes but what I want to know what kind of blu ray player are some of you using when you watch this no one ever answers that?

An why on earth does everyone keep talking about Savini he could give to craps less what happens with this .John russo himself said to my friends an I Tom needed some help that it wasn't just him directing no shock their. Its sony who will have the final say unfortunatley. An you can tell that hands down the blue/darkness you see stands out way more in the zombie scenes thats where people are correct the rest of the film is very normal

I think I read somewhere that Shout factory/Scream Factory put in a bid for the Sony Horror catalog but Sony wanted to go the limited edition route. I'm sure CMAC can shed some light on this topic.

So.... we should accept the altering and changing of our favorite movies because Sony will get mad and take their toys away? Wouldnt it show them that there are a lot of people passionate about this movie. Instead of what you guys are doing which is showing them that we will gobble up any crap release they hand us.

I still cant believe film fans could actually be ok with the altering of a film from how its been for 20 years.. im sorry I just will never get over that.
