I have a friend who just didn't get that this was all new footage shot over a weekend to make a quick buck. She thought it was a "director's cut."

I'm sorry, it had to be done, like all those people slapping that woman in Airplane!

But yeah, Russo is not to be trusted. Look at all his and Bill Hinzman's other films I didn't even mention - Midnight, Midnight 2, The Majorettes, the immortal FLESHEATER (sure gives Dawn of the Dead a run for it's money as the best sequel to NOTLD, huh?).

this may turn out to be more collectible and wanted than we had previously thought. All the people that made fun of "everyone that bought more than one copy" may soon have their foot in their mouth. Then again this could ruin TT's image for these type of releases, and this bd could become worthless. High risk yields high rewards I have 2 btw-before anyone calls me out on it

Look at the company it keeps. It's fun, in the same way Midnight is fun, if you're half-drunk or half-asleep and absolutely undemanding. But yes, it sucks.

Sell it quick. The bad word of mouth should hurt prices.

AndrewFM sorry for Return of the living dead check your source man he did a little more then what you know I met the hole cast an the director an asked some good questions pertaining to him being involved your mistaken.

An Ill tell you man SAVINI is a snake ask around about the story how savini was going behind actors backs
cause he did the f/x on one of the earlier friday the 13th movies an was sellling the mask molds without permission an keeping all the royalties for himslef an now which the hole thing has gone to court check that out.
Sorry I missed this part you added in a later edit. When did you meet Dan O'Bannon? I know he generally SIDLED the issue of Russo's involvement to be diplomatic at times (when he was alive, I mean), but it's generally agreed by EVERYONE that Dan's screenplay is his own. Not only that, it doesn't have anything to do with John Russo's book of the same name other than a) the title b) the character name BURT/BERT c) it's a sort of sequel to Night of the Living Dead with more zombies.

The name Bert/Burt could be a coincidence, but probably not - probably a legal thing to draw a line from "source" to film (that's why Russo, Steiner (Johnny in the original) and some one else get a story credit in the movie), zombies, the name and the sequel thing are the imputus for the project and so really are not a "contribution".

So this movie, much better than Russo's book, gets made. Russo doesn't understand the humour but the film is well liked by everyone involved at early screenings. While the film sits in the can for about a year, Russo writes a crappy novelisation of the same name based on the script and not the film he doesn't understand and didn't sign off on, removes the humour, adds a really stupid KBG subplot (?) and releases it under the same name as his earlier novel. This neatly makes it seem to the uninformed that the film was BASED ON HIS NOVEL despite it not being true. He's a scumbag.

Bert and Ernie are a Sesame Street reference.

Director's commentary says it was deliberate. (source: director's commentary from same movie.)

Geez andrew guns blazing, I met dan a few years back at a convention an your buddy russo just recently an I have to laugh cause dan was like you you said very pleasant to talk to no name bashing or anything. I'm not siding with russo but he explained it he wasn't all oh well the whole movie was my idea or anything like that.

He explained how just a few an I mean a "few" elements were taken from his book. An he did say yes Dan took some of johns concepts an made it his own ,an he stated that obviously 90% was Dan. I take it with a grain of salt man an like I said at face value.

I believe it's when Burt first calls him on the phone or looks through the window to see if his light is on at funeral home. Not 100% sure.

well, I am gonna chime in now as well. After all this hoopla on the darkness issue I popped my Blu-Ray in finally this evening just to skim through it and see for myself.

Yes, it is too dark, way too dark. having said that, the transfer itself looks quite good as far as clarity. I can't imagine this was supposed to happen. It really does look like a major glitch to my eyes. Of course, I've been watching the movie on DVD (and more recently on cable HD) and this while obviously quite improved in clarity in 1080p is simply too dark.

I sure hope there is a recall on this with the color timing corrected but if not, I've got 1 of 3000 of Night of the Living Dead on Blu-Ray as well as a HD rip from cable in mp4 that certainly looks better than the DVD.
