And that was before the shitstorm broke.
So instead of fake dark screenshots there's some fake bright ones

Even before those there were many comments (and screenshots) about how dark/blue it is.

Is there an actual return policy with this, say 14 or 30 days? What if it takes longer for this to be sorted out and they decide we are on our own and the window to return it is closed? I guess I could sell it but I would feel wrong selling an inferior product such as this.

But I haven't even gotten a shipping notice yet, am I the only one?

I expect them to do ANY kind of research. Maybe watch the movie a few times on different formats of past releases. Basic comparisons of video and sound. Hell buy a vectorscope to check video levels and color. Then watch the transfer that they are handed down. If its not good enough then don't release it under your companies name.

What if, by merely buying this Blu-ray and putting it in your player and pressing play you became one of the zombies and you don't have to live with the alleged color changes, you've actually died and just need to get used to a darker bluish color scheme for the rest of your purgatorial nonexistence?

If their only mistake was releasing the disc, then I fail to see how people have really been put out.

Scenario 1)

NOTLD is released on Blu-ray, with a dodgy transfer that upsets a fair number of buyers. These buyers have the option to send the disc back for a full refund. Plenty of buyers will make do and enjoy the jump in detail, a few even prefer it. If we're lucky, we might get a disc replacement anyway

Scenario 2)

NOTLD is not released on Blu-ray, not in 2012 at least, and possibly not ever.

Scenario 2 screws over a lot more people than 1 if you ask me.

Especially since most of these problems can be countered for a good HD experience.

I will certainly fault Twilight Time for trying to sweep this under the rug last night by saying that color timing is subjecting and blah blah blah. They back-pedaled and borderline said that people were being silly, if not downright mad in how they were behaving over this release.

However, I can't fault them here for what happened to the film. They've really no reason to believe that any transfer they receive is different than what the source would provide. Their releases thus far have been pretty decent, and I believe them if they say that this is how the transfer they've been given looks. Furthermore, since Sony obviously wasn't planning on releasing NOTLD 90 on Blu-ray any time soon, who would have honestly thought that the studio would have made some changes to the color timing we've all been so very used to? Yes, Sony did this with Dracula, but that was a wide release by them. Why would they alter the transfer when they weren't planning on doing a wide release?

That's what really confuses me, because despite that mystery lingering in the air, it's still pretty clear to me that this WAS altered INTENTIONALLY.

Either way, I just hope that we really get to the bottom of this. I don't think the transfer is as awful as some people are making it out to be, as there's a bit of hyperbole that goes in any discussion like this. This does make the tint in LOTR FOTR seem pale in comparison, but I think the changes actually suited the film fairly well. Regardless, I'm not a fan of having anything that differs from the original presentation, so if Twilight Time find out something got messed up and they eventually offer replacement discs, I'll be all over that.

Since you asked, here are some comparisons between the film and trailer found on the disc. The film is on the left and the trailer on the right. Click on the images for the uncompressed images. The captures may not be the exact same frame, between the two, but are close enough. The framing between the film and trailer is also slightly different.

Oh and if you feel like it, check out the scene that starts at 19:32. Thats a montage...showing the passage of time. Showing the sun going down and turning into night. Its supposed to be a creepy scene to show its getting dark out. You will have missed this on the bluray because it will have already been dark for 15 minutes prior to this scene...this scene showing it get darker. Shame this scene is has been made unnecessary now.

*edited* figured out how to post the video.
*edited again haha. got the time wrong. 19:32*

Thanks, watched a few sections of the clip and there is no doubt a difference in light / dark between the DVD and Bluray. Interested in giving the DVD a watch in the next few days if I can get my hands on one just to get a feel from it. I want to see how the lighter scenes effects viewing the film for me.

As I mentioned a few pages back I have no frame of reference for this film as until last night with the TT release I had never seen this before. I really enjoyed the movie (more than I thought I would) and had no problems with what I saw visually. It was dark at times but to me fit with the theme of the film. I did not see the scenes as blue as much as I saw them as "moonglow" appearing, if that makes any sense. Also, unless my computer monitor is messed up most of the screencaps in this thread seem way more darker than what I viewed last night - just my opinion in comparing the two.

I do feel bad for the hardcore fans of this film who have 20 plus years invested in watching this movie to have it apparently change as much as it has. While the darkening really had no impact in my enjoyment in watching and liking this undoubtably thats not the case with many. I probably would be upset as well if something like this happened to a beloved film of mine.

Apparently, Twilight Time doesn't want to bother to learn more about the transfers they're selling. They're more than happy to rectify the problem via a refund, but they either don't care to know or are too afraid to question Sony's decisions about their transfers.

Honestly, I'd like to support Twilight Time more, but it is clear that no transfer from either Fox or Sony is worth a pre-order at the price they are asking. I like to know what I'm buying when it costs $34.30 a pop. I will wait for reviews in the future, and if I miss out on a title, oh well.
I think your response is laughable. So TT needs to call every living director and/or cinematographer that's still alive for the films they're releasing -- then send them a copy of the HD master sitting in the vaults at Sony or Fox -- then ask them how accurate it is before they release it?

Some of you guys are just being ridiculous. TT said what they needed to -- either the transfer is bad, or it's the way it's supposed to look. It's either going to be CORRECTED or it's going to remain the way it is. Sony produced the transfer and their track record, in general, has been excellent -- why would TT doubt the validity of the source to begin with?

No matter what happens, seems obvious that you can get your money back if you don't like it. They responded that they'll find out on Monday what's going on. My god, what more do you want them to do? This is the kind of thing that drives labels like this away from releasing product. Then you'll have nothing to complain about -- literally.

Super belated response here, but I hated The Majorettes.

However, I got it in a boxset with Hell High and Hitcher In The Dark, and I really enjoyed both of those movies.

If you can find the High School Horrors Triple Feature, I'd say it's worth a blind-buy.

Nice comparison. Hopefully this will prevent further posts from people claiming the image has only been darkened and does not have a blueish hue.

It should be noted as well that the changes aren't limited to just the first 27 minutes of the film. That last set of images is from ~61 minutes into the film.

I've seen this movie in many different formats. I saw it opening weekend with my mother in theaters. We bought the laserdisc. Then eventually the DVD and i have watched it on SONY HD off cable. The transfers looked practically identical on all but i will hold out final judgement when i get mine tomorrow. I think all you guys bring valid points. The heaters, the lovers or the just accept it folk. I will no matter what, hold onto mine because of the fact that it's a collector's item. I grew to love the film and i will have to just accept the transfer as is. Hey if we all can except that we will never see the STAR WARS we grew up with as children, then i will not have to bad a time excepting this.

For anyone interested, the missing/non-altered sound effects can be heard on the commentary track.

I never got a shipping notice for this or for Fright Night. I logged in to my account on Screen Archives and this shipped on Friday (I had to do the same when I ordered FN as well.) So maybe try that?
