I'm still waiting for mine to arrive so I can't comment on the picture quality yet.
But at the very least this will be an important lesson for Twilight Time. They are a relatively new company and making these kind of mistakes is just part of the learning process. I do agree they should have known what the film looked like in prior releases, but could anyone really have foreseen this? I've never heard of a film this old being given new color timing, especially a genre title. While I bought the blu-ray and think the movie is decent, I've never been a hardcore fan of this movie. At the end of the day it's an unnecessary remake. If Twilight Time had to f**k up a release, I'd have to say I'm glad it happened to this movie and not a better release down the road. I can guarantee that Twilight Time has learned a hard lesson from this. They will not make this mistake again and will be a better company for it. |

![]() I would agree with you if it wasn't such an egregious, extreme f%^k up with the deep blue tints ruining scene after scene. There have been replacements for films with relatively unnoticeable issues. This is a massive, and constant annoyance. If it wasn't a "limited" release there would be no question at all about a replacement. But yes, it's true most of those with replacement programs were from the main studios involving titles that will remain in print for years. We haven't yet had too many examples of "niche" labels doing corrections, but of course the expectation is these guys are supposed to be putting more care into their releases. Isn't that what so many people claim? Then when they drop the ball all of a sudden "bu...bu...but Sony delivered them a bad master". Come on man. That is just weak. But like I said earlier, I have to believe Sony's relationship to these guys must be a little better than that. I'm not naive, I'm aware there are financial considerations. But as professionals, my expectation is that SONY will not want to just drop the ball and leave Twilight Time with their pants down. Even if their contract terms are legally fulfilled, if they look at it and see the context of their error they will want to correct the situation if it's at all reasonable (i..e of course they are not going to put up $100k to re-author everything, but my feeling is this is probably a "1 man job" and not something that requires major effort to adjust). Sony could probably spit out an unmolested version of this exact source in about a week. If that is the case, the ball is back in Twilight Time's court to follow through on the logistics of getting new discs and sending them out. As to whomever mentioned the concern of the "3000 units", obviously if you are doing a replacement program, the discs that were being replaced simply were error, or do not exist. The replacements do not count against the 3000. You trade 1 for 1. The bad disc gets destroyed. Last edited by AgentOrange; 10-02-2012 at 12:49 AM. |

I actually saw this on Comcast HD a few months ago. That transfer carries the original color timing as was released to theaters. Funnily enough I've always thought the film was too bright. Having seen samples of the BR transfer I am concerned that something went wrong somewhere. Too much of the original visuals are obscured. I can't imaging why there would be two different HD transfers floating around at Sony. My copy sits unopened.

[QUOTE=MifuneFan;6542662]I found this apologist review quite amusing
Thanks Twilight Time, next time for sure you'll get it right![/QUOTE Thats ****ing hilarious. Take the money and give out a blue copy And try to make it look like it adds texture to the look of the film that will enhance your viewing pleasure. What a retard !! |

One of the HD broadcasts should have been used instead. Maybe not as much detail, but at least it was unchanged. |

Fright Night, Enemy Mine, Night of the Living Dead *1990, and Christine are essentially the only thing people actually want. Only an extreme minority (like me ![]() In reality Sony would have had IMAGE or Mill Creek do those Sci-Fi/Horror titles and sell them for $8 a pop. Or Sony release those movies themselves for $12. It wasn't a "Twilight Time was the only studio willing to do them" scenario. Twilight Time's whole business model is predicated on the fact that if they snag say The Blob *1988- it'll create buzz and bring people to their site. If they only released movies like The Egyptian, they'd have no buzz and they'd die. i |

As more and more screenshots from unrelated sources are posted that match up to those previously posted... I wonder how long TT can deny they are accurate.

I'm not even sure you need to be a fan of, or familiar with, previous releases to realize something is a bit "off" here. The full day-night night filtering changes the style. Could be construed a "stylistic" choice, unacceptable if not the director's intent but not necessarily in error if Sony "approved" the transfer. However there are points where these "stylistic" choices are so heavy handed it borders on unwatchable, and goes beyond where it is even acceptable to call it a stylistic choice. It's just garbage. How anyone can apologize for this is beyond me. |
