Then whoever did. My point was that the camera made the other shot much bluer than the film actually is on the disc.

Thanks for posting those! From your screen caps, I want to draw attention to especially these two:

http://postimage.org/image/u89ddmvlt/

and

http://postimage.org/image/breymtfnl/

As Blu Titan had mentioned previously in the thread, these scenes now look as though they're taking place at dusk - color wise - but notice the strong shadows on ground. Stick out like sore thumbs. Never seen shadows like that on the ground with so little sunlight outside.

Thank you. Same thing when Ben gets off the truck. The Sun is just BEAMING from his head and the shadows on the trees and the fence are the same as these screenshots indicate. Dusk? Not buying that one. Why change something that did not need changing (obviously TT did not do this)? *My opinion as a member and a movie lover.

If I am to understand Goofnut, they are not "ok for a point of reference". They are the point of reference. Frame grabs direct from the disc. Take image, view on any display calibrated as you wish, you are in effect viewing the disc.

I am thinking the biggest differences in what people are seeing has to depend on their equipment and how it is calibrated. These screencaps are close, but still too dark. There is much more detail visible on the actual blu-ray as viewed on my TV screen using my setup.

For instance, notice the screencap with the truck grill. There is much more detail on the TV than what you see there. It is a blue like a twilight shading after the sun has dropped below the horizon, but dirt, grill work, all are easily visible on the front of the truck, which the screencap does not convey as it actually looks on my display.

And the screen cap with Tony Todd's legs in the foreground along with the truck tire, with Patricia Tallman on the porch.....also more detail there. On the blu-ray as it plays, there is no crushed blue or loss of detail. I can see the fabric and creases in his pants, there is light glinting off the truck tire and lower door, there is texture in the ground, the dirty truck, and the wood of the porch, and Tallman's figure is plainly visilble and distinct. Again, the scene on the blu-ray looks like it is in dusky twilight. The scene has clear depth of field.

The only scene where I really noticed a blue cast is when Tony Todd exits the house to deal with the zombie he had previously whacked with his truck. There is a close up of his face for a second, and yeah, it has a faint blue color that does look artificial, beyond the fading light of twilight.

And another issue is the computer monitor we view these screencaps on. On my monitor I do not see as much detail in these screencaps and they look too dark. So to me they do not represent what I see on the blu-ray. But someone else might have a better monitor than me and there is actually more detail in these caps that I cannot pick out on my monitor. All of this is subjective because of these things.

I can understand how those who are long time fans of this movie having seen it on DVD, etc, over the years, would find this twilight shading unacceptable. But, as some here have posted, to say it is so dark you can't see anything is not true, unless your display is set up darker than mine. And I think this is the main source of difference in how dark or how blue people are seeing. To call the transfer sh*t is being overly dramatic and an opinion I definitely do not share. I don't know what to say other than that.

For the record, I have a 65" Panasonic plasma, a Viera VT30. I have it calibrated using DNice's settings for the Panasonic taken from the AVS forum. I tweaked DNice's settings slightly when I set my TV display - increased the color just a bit, but I set all the RGB and other settings same as his recommendation. The result has always been stellar (although I do miss my Kuro that was stolen in a burglary last year )

I have a Pioneer blu-ray player - not sure if that makes a difference since it is the only blu-ray player I have ever used and cannot compare the disc in, say, a PS3.

I just don't know about your screenshots you have there HDGoofnut. Are you sure those are accurate? I have on good authority that "there is no way an image that dark ... is on the blu-ray". Hmm.

Well, that's the thing, isn't it? There is no way that an image that dark where you actually cannot see anything in the frame is on the Blu-ray - haven't seen it yet, but will on Thursday, but it is VERY important to remember that a lot of the complaining that's being done is being done by people who haven't seen the disc. Some who have seen the disc are indeed complaining, but at least they've seen it.

FYI, I took that pic. In my original post I even said I was just snapping a picture with my camera and had no fancy software to do screencaps. I was just posting a picture of both the bluray and one of the dvd. Never said in my original post this is exactly what it looked like. I was posting to show how NOT CLOSE it was to the original picture on the dvd. Then other people started taking my photos and posting them everywhere as evidence.

That said, thanks for posting your screencaps. Seeing them all lined up and in order like that, you can clearly see it getting darker, then brighter for a bit.. then darker..and then looking great in the final day scene. I think this is a great representation of how it looks.

Why don't you go watch it for yourself instead of depending on others and their screenshots to form your opinion. I have viewed the disc but from the sound of it, you have not yet. I like to see the disc before trying to comment on it

I'm just saying what I'm seeing with my own eyes. They are close but still darker than what I'm seeing.

In the screenshot with the truck, you can't see the woman standing on the steps. When I watched it, I could see her much clearer.

I'm not saying this is a great (or even a good transfer)..... But maybe people shouldn't try to talk as if they've seen the transfer just by looking at some screencaps.

are people really still denying that is too dark? I might open mine because I just figured out how to take screenshots with PowerDVD 9.5. Before i could only take compressed jpegs with TMT3.

Yeah, and .jpeg tends to leave behind compression artifacts, which is why I always using .png.

Nobody is denying that it's too dark. It definitely is. I just don't think those screencaps are EXACTLY what I'm seeing. That's all

The only reason it would look any different to you on this forum vs. watching your disc is because your computer monitor is calibrated differently than your TV's Blu-ray input. If you have a computer hooked up to your TV (as I do) and have calibrated your TV's computer input as close as possible to its Blu-ray input, you could make his frame grab full screen and there would be absolutely no difference. It's not that complicated to comprehend, and with actual frame grabs from the disc there is no need or point to telling people to "see it for themselves". Their discs will not be any different.
